Actually, Wheaton Mall still has an official Redskins store, at least they did the last I was there earlier this year. Of course, White Flint and, IIRC, Lakeforest have them too.

This was a free standing store at the corner of Viers Mill rd & University Blvd
in front of the old Best Western Hotel. The store was once a HoJo's if I remember correctly.

I don't remember too much specific to DC, aside from what I might have heard on commercials way back when.

Is Riggs Bank still around?

Also, there was some radio jingle
"You can give so much more when you make Evans your Christmas Store!"

I do remember People's as well as Church's Fried Chicken, which still exists in other localities.

Riggs Bank was bought by someone, I don't know who, but whoever did has the landmark location at Wisconsin Avenue and M Streets in Georgetown.

I remember so much of what you guys posted, it's cool that this topic was brought up.

Perry

If I remember correctly, there was a High's in Manassas before I left there in 2007.  It's probably still there.

Doctors Hospital of DC is now gone
(Eye street 1700 or 1800 block)

Columbia Hospital for women
(Penn & 24th. .  now a condo building??)

Leland Memorial Hospital
(was founded by Grandfather in Law & uncle in law)
Len Bias (this is the hospital where the ambulance took him that fateful day)

(For you youngins. .  Len Bias was a UofMD GREAT gasketball player, who was the 2nd or 3rd pick in the NBA, drafted by the then Boston Celtics. 2 days after he was drafted, they found Lenny Bias in  his dorm room, suffering from a coke overdose. Just imagine, Bias, McHale, Bird all on the floor at the same time. Chicago would have NEVER won 6 titles)

Len Bias went to my High School (Northwestern), but of course he was a bit older than me.  I was in an Algebra class with one of his brothers, Jay Bias.

Does anyone remember Red Barn restaurants?  I don't know if this was mentioned as there were so many things listed.  There was also a nice little restaurant in PG Plaza called the "Olde World Inn".  We knew the owner of that place as we went there so much.  One of the waitresses there used to work at Leonie's in Langley Park before it became a Schooner Bay seafood restaurant.

The old food court at White Flint was actually kind of neat too.  There were no chains in there, just a bunch of themed food places that had everything that a normal food court had.  I always will remember the hot dog restaurant that had a cartoon picture of this big dog with his red tongue hanging out. LOL

WES

I remember Red Barn, in fact I might still have a poster of the Washington Bullet's championship team poster, sponsored by Red Barn.  There is still the somewhat remants of a Red Barn on Bladnesburg Road near the intersection of Edmonston Road.  That building saw many incarnations including another restaurant.  It maybe a Laudromat now.

I forgot about Raleigh's I think I got a suit from there when I was smaller, the one at Landover Mall.

Perry remembers this one also, Washington Shopping Plate

I think Citizen's Bank is nomore.
There was also Drug Emporium that went out of business a while back.

One hospital that was forgotten was DC General Hospital, where I was brought into the world

Yes, my parents had the Washington Shopping Plate.  You could use it at several department stores.

We used to go to the Raleigh's a lot at PG Plaza.  That mall actually used to be decent until the early 90's when it went straight down the tubes.

The Red Barn we went to was near the Ledo's in Adelphi.  That did turn into a laundromat but Lord knows what that's probably now.

There was also the Drug Fair across the way. Loved the names of these drugstores back in the day.  Drug Fair, Dart, People's...names you can really remember and each had their own personality.

Before the Chesapeake Bay Seafood House was at Beltway Plaza, that was called the Family Fish House.  Man, those lines used to be completely out the door on weekends.  Everyone there for the all you can eat crab legs, fish and hush puppies!!

DCT S9Z4Z6

Before the Family Fish House, it was Beef Steak Charlies.

YES on the Washington Shopping Plate, I remember the saying as
"Central Charge It"

I remember back when Wheaton Plaza & PG Plaza were both Plaza's. .  they wern't malls. Wheaton even had a fountain in the middle of their's, next to the Hot Shoppes Cafeteria. PG Plaza went down hill, when they expanded it. Beltway Plaza went downhill, when the GreenLine opened up.

Wasn't Jay Bias also the victim of crime?? I think I remember something about he got shot behind PG Plaza? I also remember after Len Bias died, his teammate "Adrian Branch" got popped in the Langley Park "Stop & Cop" by PG's finest for trying to get a nickle bag. (The Langley Pk stop & cop were the parking lots of the Apts between 14th & Merrimac & Kanawah at the enterance to the Willowbrook Apts. Not that *I* would have ever stopped in that area for anything, cept driving my Taxi.) <innocent look>

Yes. .  the original Ledo Pizza. .  next to the Jumbo supermarket   24th & University.

Perry. . . . Did we ever meet in real time?
Can't go wrong, with a classic ANYTHING!

Perry

Actually Beefsteak Charlies was in the middle of the mall when it was called Emersons, I believe because it was there at the same time as one of the fish houses.

I'm sure we did meet in regular time if you were a driver for T/L taxi and Yellow cab, had to have been...it wasn't like there were that many cab drivers in that part of PG!!

Yes Jay Bias did die after being shot by PG Plaza.  Such a shame, both he and Len had their lives wasted.

Hah, Willowbrook Apts...my dad had a coworker that lived there and he'd pick her up and drop her off, but fortunately he never had a problem of feeling unsafe doing that.

Yup both Wheaton and PG, remember fondly when they were Plazas.  Beltway Plaza used to be a fun place to between the original AMC 6 theaters, Golden Dome out in the parking lot and the seafood house!

DCT S9Z4Z6

I got 1 for ya

BEFORE the AMC 6 theaters, what occupied that place in the mall, was:
Robert Hall Menswear!! This was the same time frame as S. Klein at the other end of Beltway Plaza
