Lowe's Palace, Lowe's Capitol, Lowe's Embassy, the old Dupont Circle, RKO Keith's, Town Theater, the old Georgetown Theater . . .

I saw American Graffiti on a young lady date at Lowe's Embassy. I saw the Taking of Pelham 123 at RKO Keith's when it was released in 1974. I learnd how to operate a 35mm motion picture projector at the Town Theater. My Brother has the 1940 vintage RCA tube amplifiers out of Georgetown.

KB Theater (twins)
In Langley Park is no more

I forget the name, but up at Viers Mill Rd & Randolph Rd, where Rodmans? drug now sits was once a Theater (Adult themed)

Speaking of Adult Themed Movies. .  are there any left on 14th street?
I know when METRO opened McPherson Sq, & when the VCR became common, led to the demise of adult theaters, and since I don't live in DC anymore. .  was just wondering. . .  nothing left on 14th anymore??

Speaking of plazas and malls, I remember when Capital Plaza was just that a plaza........and outdoors.  I never been to Landmark before it was an outdoor shopping center.  Either another PG mall or Montgomery shopping center used to be outdoors and now it's indoors.

As for Capital Plaza (Mall), it's now a Wal-Mart (minus the super it wanted to be).

I remember taking the A12 to Landover Mall back in its heydey (it actually did have one).  We rode a Flx New Look on the A12 from PG Hospital after transferring from the F8 that we took from Univ. and Riggs there to meet my aunt and cousins.

I can't remember any other malls that were not 'malls' per se as I was pretty limited to where I would go to since we didn't have a car.

Seven Corners actually used to be sort of a mall when Woodies was there.

DCT Groupie: no, there are no more adult theaters on 14th Street.

The likely reason why the Capital Plaza Wal*Mart is not a Wal*Mart Super Center is because the developer that own the property also own the property that is occupied by Safeway.

Normal practice is, if there already is a supermarket in a shopping center developed by the same developer the Wal*Mart moving in will not be a super center. If developer plans to put a supermarket and a Wal*Mart in the in the same shopping center the Wal*Mart will not be a super center. If developer in planning to build a shopping center that is anchored by a Wal*Mart that Wal*Mart will be a super center.

I can't believe that all of us missed a Silver Spring landmark business.

GIFFORDS Ice Cream
Georgia Ave & Sligo Ave.

I think the business moved (Bethesda) but I also believe not the same owners.

yes. .  and they call this progress.
I guess Marion Barry & the members of the U.S. Congress are gonna watch the dancers & the movies in their hotel rooms like the rest of us.

Did anyone mention Little Tavern?  I used to love those little burgers.

I still haven't had one of those yet....I don't eat fast food all that often and if I do, it's usually running to Sonic.

WMAveteran

DCT Groupie: you are correct, Gifford's has new owners and they have a store in the new Rockville Towne Center on Gibbs Street.

I live between 2 different SONIC locations, within a 5 min drive.

Inn n Out Burger is like a little tavern, but Inn n Out serves french fries.
And if your ever at Industrial & Tropicanna at lunchtime, you will see the line OUT the door & into the parking lot.

Yes. .  its an aquired taste. When my g/f took me to Santa Cruz to "meet the in laws", she took me to the Inn n Out. Now 11 years later, now thats shes my wife, anytime we are out west, she makes me take her to Inn n Out.

The ironic thing is that whenever I go to Five Guys (namely the Columbia Heights location, but also the original location in Old Town), the board of index cards praising them always has at least a few Californians (Nevadans/Arizonans) writing about how much better Five Guys is vs. In-n-Out! Of course, wait until Five Guys expands out west.

DCT S9Z4Z6

Inn n Out only has 3 choices for their burgers

a #1
a #2
a #3
(No, I dont remember the differences)

And 5guys gives you a TON of FF Potatoes. Also a better selection of burgers.

But Inn n Out is an aquired taste :)
