Heading back last night from Union Station to Silver Spring, I noticed that the switch installation work from the Glenmont-bound track to Brentwood Yard had resumed after being postponed last weekend due to the emergency reconstruction at Takoma. There was only one problem with that:
Metro didn't tell anyone. No announcements on the electronic signs, no postings on the website, no website notification, nothing. The long gap between trains heading towards Glenmont was the only possible clue and it only became certain when we switched tracks. Couldn't Metro have at least let people know ahead of time about this or that the speeds overall would be reduced as it ran slowly, period, even with the work at Takoma done? Or is unscheduled, unannounced track work a part of their "let's not trust the public" mindset?
Heaven help if they pull this tonight with the Caps game going on...

They don't announce evening trackwork in advance for some reason.  They also don't reply to my questions about why they don't.  If you sign up for eAlerts, you'll get notification of this type of work but otherwise you are out of luck.

As for doing it tonight, who cares?  They do trackwork on the Red Line following Nationals games, and even have done trackwork on the west end of the Orange Line during the weekends on Nationals homestands.  If they never do trackwork on a night with a sporting event, when do you expect them to do maintenance?
