Beginning January 4, 2009, Fairfax Connector will not issue or accept paper transfers.

To get the rail-to-bus discount, or to transfer free from bus to bus*, you must use a SmarTrip card.

For more information, or to find out how to buy a SmarTrip card, please visit www.fairfaxconnector.com or call 703-339-7200 (TTY 703-339-1608).  Thank you for your cooperation as we make the switch to a more efficient, paperless transfer system.

*Except when transferring to a bus with a higher fare.

Almost the exact same message as the one for Ride-On.  Is WMATA sending out a standard template for all of the municipalities?

Of course, this isn't a surprise - the transfer/daypass system were officially Regional Transfers.

I shall miss them, but hopefully this will help with WMATA's revenue problem.

When is the 75 cent bus-2-rail and rail-2-bus transfer fees coming in place?
My favorite buses:
1989 SEPTA AN440: 19 years in service
1989 NJT Metro Bs: 21 years in service
1990 WMATA 93/9400 Flxes: 20 years in service!
1990-92 Ride-On Orion Is: 17-18 years in service!

Tell me again I have no taste in buses...

I think every transit company around the DC area are doing the smartrip thing!!!

Yessir - that's the only way Smartrip really works anyway.

Same date, but it is a 50 cent discount each way now, for a total additional savings of 15 cents over the current 85 cent discount.

The NVTC has decided to discontinue the Code Red Ride Free program as of May 1, 2009.

And that means the Fairfax Connector & all of the Northern Virginia bus systems - including Metrobus' Northern Virginia divisions - will no longer offer free bus rides on Code Red bad air days.

NewFlyer9736BCT

wow...talk about having free rides on Code Red AND Code Orange...and now not having free rides even on Code Red...looks like the homeless and the AC-less will have to mooch off cool air from other businesses.

Will DC and MD still have Code Red free days?
Route Q2. Destination: Silver Spring Station

WMATAGMOAGH

Maryland still has them. DC never did.

Perry

Code Red days were a joke.  We never had an increase in ridership at PRTC, it was just the regulars getting a free ride.

Tristan

We saw a few hundred more heads on Code Red days, but those heads were crackheads and bums and Shaniqua with all her chullrins mooching off the free rides...not the choice commuter crowd we were going for.

Chullrins? Don't you mean chirrens.

I happened to use the last Code Red preview day to do my only PRTC fan trip. I must be in the minority then. :)

Perry

Yeah, we had no increase in ridership as a result of that.
