Metro to hold remembrance ceremony on June 22 at Fort Totten  For immediate release: June 15, 2010

               
Public invited to attend ceremony to honor victims, those injured, first responders       
Metro will hold a remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m. on  Tuesday, June 22, adjacent to the Fort Totten Metrorail station to  honor the memory of those who lost their lives, those who were injured  and the first responders who came to Metro's aid in last year's tragic  accident. The public is invited to attend.
At 10:30 a.m. on  June 22, Metro will invite its employees, customers and the general  public throughout the region to pause for a moment of silence and  reflection. At the same time, Metro will observe a moment of silence in  all Metrorail stations, rail yards, bus facilities, Metro  administrative offices and other facilities.

The families of  those who died will be invited to unveil a bronze plaque and lay a  wreath in honor of the victims, those who were injured and the first  responders who provided so much aid last year.

"The greatest  honor that Metro can offer to those who we can never bring back is to  do all that we can to prevent another tragedy," said Metro General  Manager Richard Sarles.

Its generous for them to do that for the families, and its better then nothing done at all. I will be there to pay some respect to the people involved in this accident.

!  Somehow I missed this topic until now.  Too late to get that day off, I guess.  Oh well, I may not be there in person, but I'll definitely keep this in mind.  Next time i visit, I shall visit that memorial.

I'm still mad that the first article about this was wasted in a foul attempt to vilify WMATA rather than to point people in the right direction to get information about the Memorial.
