New Thruway Bus Service for Eastern Maryland

The September 2008 edition of the NARP NEWS reported the following announcement: "New Thruway Bus Service for Eastern Maryland - BayRunner Shuttle has seven daily round-trips linking BWI Airport Rail Station with Easton, Cambridge, and Salisbury; five of these trips also serve Ocean Pines and Ocean City.  To be ticketed by Amtrak, book at least 48 hours before departure; after that call BayRunner directly (410-912-6000)."  Does anyone know what kind of equipment they are using?

How come we can't do seasonal service to Ocean City like DART does? I'm sure there are people who'd like to get to the beach who can't drive.

How come we can't do service like this to the western end of the state...there was a time when MARC would run specialty trains down to Baltimore from Cumberland for O's games -- I wish that were around today for the Purple Birds of Baltimore -- I'd be able to have "one more for the road" and not have to worry...
If they can do it to Cambridge, Salisbury and occasionally, Ocean City, the same could be done for Hagerstown, Cumberland, Frostburg, with an occasional run to the Wisp Resort out at DCL.

I don't know what's running on it, but I don't expect it to last, unless there's a bug in the the Arrow reservation system that will be fixed.

Pricing a Baltimore-Ocean City trip ONE WAY via Amtrak and the Thruway comes out to $113!!!     The rail fare from BAL-BWI could only constitute about $13 of that fare.

On the 'Hound, the price comes out to $37 to $43 one way.

Not sure if the price is set to be comparatively more affordable from other origins, but DC was running the same as Baltimore.

The actual number of passengers carried is not that important. The fact is

I don't particularly like the way YaBB forums render quoted text using the quote function. So I delete out the quote box tag and replace them with the appropriate YaBB tags.

If you look at my posts in other forums that use the YaBB engine you will see that I format my quoted text the same way as you see it formatted in this post.

They could perhaps be "turtle-tops" that allows for luggage on the top of the vehicles, although that would be a pain to load and unload.  Maybe they have a U-haul type of trailer behind it?

Carolina Trailways does operate bus service to Ocean City from DC all year I believe. I have seen the busses on Route 50.

NHTSA and other auto safety groups have special warnings about the instabililty of 15 passenger vans when they are loaded and travelling at speed.  School systems are prohibited from using 15 passenger vans for student transport and the auto safety groups recommend they carry no more than 10 passengers at speeds that are at or under the "double nickel" (55).  Apparently it is OK to put Amtrak passengers on them(lol)!

Okay, just a suggestion, thought I was saving you a couple clicks.

If there was a 10-passenger version (nothing I'm aware of), it would undoubtedly be smaller, making it a different vehicle than what we were expecting, adding some relevance to my clarification -- it'd the difference between a 35' bus and a 40' bus...no, not the biggest deal, but worth noting nonetheless.
