I have to hand it to WMATA, but ever since the whole fiasco on Labor Day weekend they've gotten on the ball with getting early and frequent notification of major shutdowns even if it is a CYA move. This might be the light at the end of the tunnel for the many, many single-track weekends between Medical Center and Grosvenor.

The shuttle buses might be the last stand for some Flxibles since I'd think it'd be an all-Montgomery affair since the deadhead from Bladensburg might be a little too long of a deadhead for a shuttle.

Can anyone figure out why the J2 is suggested as an alternative in the press release?

Good question. They should have said Ride On 46 as an alternative.

Actually, the 5 and Qs are probably the best options, though any cross county route that serves the stations north of the closure would be logical ones to list.

I love the irony that the closed station in all this is the only one on the western Red Line (in Maryland) without a weekend bus connection to the other side of the Red Line. Of course, Grosvenor does seem pretty under-bused with only one line (the 46) running nights/weekends.

It might seem under-bussed, but it isn't a high volume station and really doesn't need the service on weekends.  Most people who would use the station on the weekend probably arrive by car and can easily just drive to Wheaton, Forest Glen, Bethesda, or Friendship Heights instead.
