Disrespect towards WMATA Buses and Employees

Ok I'll give this a try, Every year WMATA buses and bus drivers get attacked by eggs, and I am sick of it people need to control their kids let alone show our transit agency some respect. Although WMATA seems to do somethings we all might not agree on, its still our agency I mean people who don't have cars depend on WMATA everyday and people just disses it. Why I am talking about this? Because last night bus 4043 on the M6 making its last run got lit up by eggs, and it was GROWN PEOPLE who did it I mean come on thats why the Annex (and probably the old Southeastern if it was still here) doesn't have the good buses I mean now I see why alot of you guys don't want the D40LFRS here at the Annex let alone Southeast I mean this might happen in Northeast/West also but I AM FED UP WITH PEOPLE DISRESPECTING WMATA. I mean Eating, Drinking, and leaving trash on these buses it makes no sense and then people say "Well I don't care about these buses, I don't pay for them" Uh...Yeah we ALL pay for this, speakin of pay some people don't even pay the fare and get mad when they get put off the bus. I made this topic because I feel it should be put out there. I am a Bus fan and I feel they should be treated with respect people need to grow up, Pay your fare wait till you get off the bus to eat (I mean your food isn't goin anywhere) and just treated as if it was your car. But who am I to tell others what to do? Im just stating an opinion and no disrespect but if you don't like it don't comment on my opinion.

Unfortunately this happens in every city and a lot of it is due to people not having respect for other's property.  It's a problem in more senses than just buses.  Since we have very little grass in Las Vegas, our buses get peppered with rocks.  Not much you can really do unfortunately other than try to prosecute those that vandalize the vehicles.  It's one of those 'costs of doing business" that gets incurred.

I agree with Perry.  Annex4421, I can understand your frustration, but this goes a lot deeper than folks disrespecting WMATA.  A lot of these folks indeed have the mentality that it's "not theirs", and therefore they don't care if it's vandalized, dirty or what.  Even some of those who are not vandals also don't seem to care which in my opinion makes no sense.  I wasn't a vandal as a child, but I can tell you this... Growing up in one of NYC's worst neighborhoods, I hated that our neighbors were destroying our building and so on just for kicks.  It's one reason why as a youngster I dreamed of the day when I could leave all of that behind.  So, it's not only the transit system.  It also happens in apartment buildings, neighborhood playgrounds, schools etc.

Yes, I agree that a huge part of the problem is that these same people also refuse to control the children and they grow up with the same attitudes.  It's vicious cycle.  A good case is that you can often see a person board a bus with food.  They'll eat, leave their garbage behind and then complain about the buses being dirty and/or having roaches.  Makes no sense.  I could go on and on....

Yea, and the sad part is that, if let's say the authorities decided to agressively pursue and prosecute these individuals.  We'd then see their parents complaining about their children being punished for nothing.  It's a bad problem of society.
