What is it with WMATA employees and the use of caps? :-)

Welcome to DCATZ!

Please refrain from using ALL CAPS as it is A) hard to read, and B) means shouting.  Otherwise, enjoy our site, and let us know if you have any questions or comments.

the information is not true they have not decided what line the fleet will go on but they will have a part of the X2 line. Bladensburg will not do any Virgina line work at all!!.Look for the up comming weeks were they will be tested on the DC routes only .

Ok. From what I saw in the document also, some of these buses are going to Montgomery Division. Now, I'm just telling information someone, or something else told me.

If you are talking about the NABI BRTs, Montgomgery doesn't have the CNG facilities or fueling station to service these buses.  Montgomery will most likely get 11 of the 22 hybrid DE62LFAs that the due to come in by next year.

I could be out of the loop here, but even if VA was to get these buses or a VA route was to get some wouldn't the 16 take presidence over the 5A.  The 5A runs every 40 minutes, wouldn't an increase in service(pressuring VA to chip in some  more doe) to around 20 to 30 minutes.

Evidence to the contrary, regarding the DC vs. VA/Who funded the 5A/B:

From Councilman David Catania (DC) website:

"Improved Reverse Commute
After nearly two years of effort, in December 2000, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority began bus service between the District of Columbia and Dulles Airport. The new 5A bus currently carries nearly 800 residents a day to jobs in the Dulles corridor. Based on the success of Metro bus 5A, Councilmember Catania worked to create a second route between the District and Tyson's Corner. This service, known as Metro bus 5B, was initiated in September 2001. "

From WMATA's history listing - Year 2000:
"December 4: Metrobus begins reverse commute service
between L'Enfant Plaza station and Dulles airport with
stops at Rosslyn station and the Herndon/Monroe
Transit Center. The new service is designed to reduce
transportation barriers for the working poor, help
welfare recipients and low-income earners gain access
to work opportunities and help all workers reach
suburban jobs."

From some campaign to re-elect Catania: (http://www.dcwatch.com/archives/election2002/catania01.htm)

"Transportation
The District's economy is stronger now than it was a few years ago. However, our unemployment rate remains much higher than in the suburbs. Councilmember Catania is leading the effort to improve public transportation services to the suburbs to make it easier for our residents to access suburban job opportunities. As a result of these efforts, Metrobus routes 5A and 5B have been created. These routes now transport hundreds of workers daily between the District's L'Enfant Plaza station and the Dulles Airport corridor and Tysons Corner. "

Yes, I'm relying heavily on stuff a politician says, but I don't see anyone in VA taking credit for initiating or funding this route.

We'll Four Mile Run does several Washington only routes, especially the N22, which is done by that division all day long seven days a week, so I wouldn't be surprised if a Washington division did a Virginia Route; Bladensburg doing the 5A.

Well it's still possible for the 5A to still be only FMR...also since the fact that FMR is CNG and artic capable, I don't see why not.

If it were to be served by Bladensburg, like others said, it won't be much of a surprise since the 5A terminates in DC.

Although I saw the link that NGOrion provided, it does look like the new artics will go to Bladensburg.
(now we wait...soon we will see New Flyer CNGs, Bladensburg 2600s, and Bladensburg's 4200s on the 5A, which will be interesting (don't forget the MetroExtra buses!))

Also, apparently it looks like Western will get some of the 40-ft hybrid BRTs...I wonder if and when Western will do any rennovations to change the height limit...
