The Three Keys to the Redskins Success this Year

Living in Las Vegas is not going to bode very well for me to see many games unless I purchase the NFL package, which I'm not going to do, or try to find a bar in the area that happens to show them.  Judging from what the local paper said the other day, there are none for the 'Skins this year.  After today's game, I see why.

The three things the 'Skins need to do:

Fire Zorn.  Or at least demote him to a QB coach.  He stinks and I've never had a warm fuzzy feeling for him. After the they started 6-2 and everyone was getting all excited, you could just sense impending doom.....and it happened.

Trade Campbell.  Why the heck are they keeping this kid?  He stinks.  He has an arm but that's about it...he doesn't seem to have the willpower to figure out what he needs to do to be a successful leader.  If the 'Skins have an awful year, he and Zorn will be looking for a new job.

Get a pass defense.  What the heck was it with all of those missed tackles and not being able to get to Manning? 

I'm so glad I'm not going to have to waste my Sundays watching those losers.

Mayhaps Bill Cowher?

I sort of have to disagree with these three things to factor in on today's game(though I didn't watch because of work).

1)They played the Giants, a team that many have picked to represent the NFC in the superbowl.

2)They are playing in Giant Stadium, which has not been a good place for the Skins to play in as of late.

3)And even though Micheal Strahan is retired, the Giants still have a formidable defense and one of the Skin's perceived weaknesses is their offensive line.


BUT WITH THAT SAID---The Skins still should have beaten the Giants.  In order for them to have a better season from last year they have to............

1)Let Jason Campbell play quarterback.  Stop holding this guy back.  If Zorn wants this guy to play quarterback and he is this team's best chance to win games, let him throw the ball downfield.  That was the problem last year, too conservative play calling.

2)The defense has to take the other team's offense off of the field.  Again I didn't watch the game, but how many 3 and longs did the Giants convert.  More sacks are needed ,this line is supposed to be impressive, it needs to be in order for the Redskins to have a chance to get into the playoffs.  Baltimore in 2000 proved that you don't need an impressive offense to win a superbowl, but a great defense can win it.

3)Stop stupid turnovers and stupid penalties.  The skins, even under Joe Gibbs the past couple of years have had stupid turnovers and stupid penalties at the most inopportune time.


We will see what happens when they play the Lambs next week.  If the Lambs who I can get a team of girls to whoop, doesn't blow them out or even beat them by 14 points or more, then those we have a problem.  On paper this team is supposed to be a superbowl contender (unlike the Cowboys, who I think are so overrated), but paper ain't squat if the team doesn't perform on the field.

Or maybe we can get Tony Dungy out of retirement.  Anyone know of a spell to bring George Allen or Vince Lombardi back to life?  Just kidding.

I think Perry and Wes both makes some vaild points.  However, in regards to Jason Campbell, I'm with Wes.  I'm still convinced this kid can be special.  Call me crazy, but I think Campbell has some untapped talent that under the correct guidance, he can be awesome. 

But with the 'Skins talking to Cutler and trying to woo Sanchez (I'm so glad he stayed with the Jets), I'd say Campbell's future is likely not with the 'Skins.  When Campbell is no longer in the burgundy and gold, I'll bet some $$$ that he'll go on to bigger and better things.

In today's game I saw more of the 'Skins silly penalties.  They show briliance in spurts.  The fakeout field goal kick and ball run in for the TD was awesome.  Then they came out somewhat flat in the 3rd quarter.  Obviously, I happy with the outcome, but the Giants should've had at least two more scores.

I think Cowher and/ or Dungy would be great for the 'Skins, but like Marty... I don't know that they'll tolerate Snyder's input.

That usually happens when a player leaves the Redskins.  They just seem to have do a really bad job coaching and a lot of that has to do with the higher ups trying to use the Redskins as a fantasy league team rather than a real football team.

I don't disagree that Campbell has an arm, but some of that has to do with making sure his receivers are on the same page instead of having them stop (cough, Santana Moss) while the ball sails over his head and almost intercepted.

They're plenty of teams who hasn't won or even played in a Super Bowl in many years.  The fact that the 'Skins haven't made it to a recent Super Bowl does not make them a bad team.  Sure they've had many shortcoming over the years, but, they've had some success too.

Also, other than you joking, I'm not understanding why you think this topic belongs in the Hall of Shame.

The 'Skins definitely need more of a force for coach.  I would love for Dungy or Cowher to come back and coach them.  They need someone to light a fire, not be their friend.  I think Zorn really should go back to being a QB coach and let someone else take the pressure of taking care of the whole team.  Of course I also think that when Gibbs resigned they should have had what's his name, the guy from Buffalo that was there, Greg Williams, be the coach.  It really takes a certain talent to deal with these players, young old, highest paid or rookie.

Yes I was just joking. The reason I said Hall of Shame because the Redskins should be ashamed. Redskins have bearly made it to the playoff some years. Sure they got lucky one of these years (forgot which one either last year or the year before) but please don't butter 'em up. ...And that's where we disagree.  If you look back at past years the 'Skins are almost always in contention right until the final weeks.  The Lions have not been good (and a lot of bad luck) along with the Raiders and both have not been close to being playoff contenders recently.  Not buttering them up.  Just calling it like I see it and I can back it up with their results over the last few seasons.  Each season the Redskins come out of the gate with some decent talent, but often enough they're inconsistent, not to mention they still haven't learned to stop getting so many penalties.  They're not at all as bad as Detroit and Oakland but, the 'Skins are in a division where an 8-8 record is not going to cut it.

Unfortunately I'm a Redskins fan but luckily my other team is the Baltimore Ravens.  But remember, this is only the first game guys....

Agreed.  Yesterday was a great sports day for me with the Giants' win and my "other team", the Jets also looking great with their talented rookie QB Sanchez.

As for me: Giants fan here, remember all three Super Bowl wins with them but got screwed out of being able to see XLII because I was on the road...to DC. #2 is Pats (not a bandwagoner, started out of pity after their 1-15 season about 20 years ago), #3 is Ravens out of the "they're-local-and-not-the-Skins" arguement.

Get rid of the owner, Daniel Snyder, then, MAYBE we can stop trying to buy a winning team, and let the players play.

In the 80's. .  Jack Kent Cooke didn't buy 3 SB Championships. .  he hired the best available coaches & mgr's (Joe Gibbs & Bobby Bethard), sat in the owners box & signed the checks.

Since JKC passed away, and Danny Snyder bought the team, we (Redskins & Their fans) been the laughing stock/doormat of the NFC East.

Already this year, we are ranked at the bottom of the NFC East & I don't see it getting better anytime in 2009.
