If it was yesterday, it might have been 5014. I saw 5013 deadheading down 355 while on the 5 yesterday then came home to see it going up 16th Street on the 3 to Takoma about a half-hour later.

4291 was one of my favorite buses to drive at Shuttle UM.  Those things are 18 years old already....they were only 2 years old when I started there...I feel very old now.

Who knows when they'll replace them. As well as 67 and 68. The Thomases definitely need to go since they are POS.

I'm not claiming to be an expert and I admit that I could be wrong, but I'm at least 90% certain that this bus is a Metro-B.  If the year is correct, then it has to be a Metro-B.




I guess a good question is:  Were any Metro-Bs built with roof mounted exhausts?

What about 67 and 6891? They have rooftop exhaust, but I dunno if they might be Bs or Cs.

They're the exact same as the 30 footers from 91.  The driver's cockpit is exactly the same and the other features inside are the same.  I loved driving the 40 footers, especially for Terp home football games where I drove for the whole season in '94. We would pick them up at the Holiday Inn at US1 and the Beltway and get a police escort the whole way to Byrd Stadium.  Nice having traffic just move out of the way for you. 

I usually took the lead position, and the head coach would stand up front near me.  One time I was leading and the driver behind me said that her crew was digging the fact that I was beaming down US1 and kept pushing the police to move faster.  Then we headed onto Campus Drive and the traffic was way backed up so I nudged over to the oncoming lane that had no traffic and the cops knew what I wanted to do, so they immediately shut down the intersection at the traffic circle and we went around it clockwise instead of counter-clockwise and just flew up to the stadium.
