I'm going to start posting here some buses that operate "out of place" according to our daily block charts.

1/29/09: 5545 (SS) is operating on a Nicholson run
1/30/09: 5401 (training), 5410 (SS) and 5591 (SS) are operating Nicholson runs

I saw 5591 at Silver Spring today but it was not in service...I didn't get to see the others though =(

I had no idea it was that simple!
My favorite buses:
1989 SEPTA AN440: 19 years in service
1989 NJT Metro Bs: 21 years in service
1990 WMATA 93/9400 Flxes: 20 years in service!
1990-92 Ride-On Orion Is: 17-18 years in service!

Tell me again I have no taste in buses...

Is this change gonna involve 4-character blocks like WMATA? I'm guessing because not too long ago I was on a New Flyer (forgot the number and route) and the block was G437 I think. For one thing, it starts with a G, but it's a Gaithersburg route, so I'm also guessing it's gonna be G, S, and N for the division names?

Nothing to do with the Orbital radios but it has something to do with the scheduling side.

Let's see. Letters would be good but most of the older buses have two character blocks (I wonder if that'll change). I agree with the G-Gaithersburg S-Silver Spring and N-Nicholson thing. Then there are the numbers comparing to MTA which did a four digit block system back in 07 (which is alot better now) 1-Bush 2-Eastern 3-Kirk 4-Northwest. But we'll have to wait and see what Moco cooks up in the coming weeks or so.

I don't think it is worth it to replace two letter run boxes just for this.  As for how Ride On could display the blocks on those buses, they could take the European approach where a metal or paper sign is placed in a slot on the outside of the vehicle or in a holder on the dash (see photo below) or they could just do what many transit systems do, which is not display a block number, though that has a high potential of creating difficulties for the supervisory staff.
