When your star player is hurt (for the second consecutive year) and other injuries occur to some of your star players, would have been wise to fire your head coach.  Well the Wizards think so in firing Eddie Jordan today, in most part for the teams 1-10 start.  This guy has lead the Wizards to more playoffs than probably the last three coaches combined.  He resurrected a team, that even the legendary Micheal Jordan couldn't get to the playoffs.  In fact I think the last time the Wizards made the playoffs was when they were the Bulletts.

I like Eddie Jordan as a coach, and wish him well  (well he'll coach again and take his next team further in the playoffs).  My only problem with him was that his teams couldn't play defense if their lives depended on it.  Also the Wizards could have used a better, more athletic center (Marcus Camby mayhaps) and a good defender, maybe Jordan's job would have been safe, but when a team goes 1-10, loses a 5 point lead in 40 seconds and worse off, loses to the Knicks (don't you get kicked out of the NBA when you lose to the Knicks?  ;D   ), something had to give(look ma at the run on sentence I done did) *ahem*

Ed Tapscott well be in interim coach, we'll see if he can turn this team around, they got talent, but getting a few more pieces could have taken them to the upper levels of the NBA and maybe talked about as an NBA finalist.

I saw someone say this was a case where the coach was fired because you can't fire the players.  I'm not sure a change of coach is really the solution here, (and I don't follow the NBA as closely as I follow baseball so take my word for what it is worth,) but time will tell.

I'm really upset at firing Eddie Jordan. In typical Washington sports style, get rid of those that can be used as the scapegoat.

The reasons keep piling up why I'm really liking college sports a lot better than professional sports.  I don't watch NBA, NHL or NFL on TV anymore and barely watch MLB.  I couldn't care less how the Wizards, Caps, Redskins or any other pro team does.

Thank you  for your comment.  I agree with you absolutely!!!  Professional sports are all about obscenely paid entertainers who believe they are above the law and a common sense of decency, not to mention proper use of the English language.  I use one parameter when I judge how I spend my time: will it make any difference in my life (or the life of the world) if an event disappeared.  I can truly state that nothing in my life would change if professional sports disappeared.  In fact there would be a lot more peace in the world if people didn't fight each other over sports rivalries like soccer fans!

I saw this one coming.  I understand sometimes a coach/manager may not be working out, but this was a stupid move.  I think Jordan was good for the Wizards and this is their loss.  The sad part is that Wizards fans may suffer the most.

I to as a Wizards fan is dissappointed!! I think Eddie Jordan was the best coach that came to the Wizards and on top of that had love for the team because he is a DC native. We went to the Playoffs 4/5 years he was coach. Wes Unseld probably had a worst record then that when he coached!! You got to consider some of the issues such as injuries to two major players (Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood) so of course were not going to be playing in full force especially with all these young bucks that are inexperienced. Abe Polin and Eddie Grunfeld gets a thumbs down from me.... >:(

It does make it hard to watch College sports at times realizing that in a few years, these young people will too become jaded with the glitz and glamor of professional sports.  I really used to enjoy sitting down and watch a football or baxketball game no matter who was playing, but since I have two little kids and other things I need to do, it puts it all in perspective.  Even though I give the Red Sox a hard time because my wife loves them so much, they really are a team.  Watching them play everyday on the MLB network, I have to admit that they do a lot of their community and actually keeps me from totalling not watching professional baseball.

Something told me that, when I heard him on the radio last week, I might not hear much from him soon.

Chris,

You make good points.  Everytime I heard Jordan speaking to the media, he always sounded like someone who was ginuinely comitted to the team.  I think this was a no-brainer.  The big guns are down and somehow the front office seems to expect the young guns to carry the team.  The Wizards were simply going through a bad time and I'm sure they would've recovered.  When the front office starts crap like this, that's when they start losing fans.  I never felt the same about the Knicks when they totally dissed Ewing, a man who played his heart out for all of those years.

The Wizards, or I should say Abe Pollin, is legendary for their less than stellar way of dealing with players and management.  Just look at Olie Kolzig for the Caps.  For all that he's done for them, he was benched almost the entire rest of the season and sat for the playoffs.  The Wizards/Bullets didn't handle Chris Webber or Juwan Howard properly, they let Michael Adams go and then they do stupid things like bring in has-beens like Moses Malone who was 90 when he came to the Bullets.  We're supposed to be excited by that?  Don't even get me started on Michael Jordan.....

As good as Gilbert Arenas is, was it worth paying him all that money rather than picking up a couple of other guys who could at least be playing right now?  Eddie Jordan may actually be happy to be getting out of there.

I didn't think about that.  You may be right.  There's just so much that's wrong in pro sports nowadays.

To be fair, Abe Pollin hasn't had a majority stake in the Caps for years, and I don't think Ted Leonsis was directly involved in that decision either.  Pollin, however, was involved in the latest Arenas signing and until Arenas gets on the floor and plays, this contract looks like a huge mistake.  Some friends of mine said that Arenas could be the Albert Belle of the NBA.

Not much of a basketball fan, but this may hurt a lot of people. I actually liked Eddie Jordan. Well that sucks though.
The REAL Landover Division fan!

Perry

I think Pollin is too trusting.  He takes the advise from those that are to make the decisions and instead of being a Steinbrenner or Angelos, he lets his front line management make the decisions and he opens up the checkbook.  He also seems to be a more mature version of Dan Snyder.  He wants all of his favorite players on the team no matter where they are in their career,

Also, in response to elsewhere in the thread, Eddie Jordan is the Wizards 3rd best coach in terms of wins.  Wes Unseld had 202, Jordan had 197.
