I always see these cars parked at the Alexandria rail yard and was wondering, what do they use them for? Are they work trains?

Chargerdodge9

They are numbered #8000-8003.

Revenue collecting aka "money train"
"Ignore Asian Character Width"

Do you know their original numbers?

From what I heard, they're unrehabbed Rohr cars. I don't know what the original numbers were, but they do go to every station (2 8000 series cars usually attached to 2 other revenue cars, making a 4 car train) to collect the money.

Unrehabilitated in the sense that the interiors were not rehabilitated, The propulsion systems were upgraded to AC along with other subsystems when the rest 1k cars were rehabilitated back in the 1990s.

Which ones were involved in the Ft Totten crash of 2009? I think that was 1078-1079 if I'm not mistaking?

The cars that were totaled were a couple of Rohr cars, but I don't know the numbers.
