BREAKING NEWS: Greyhound MC-12 Headed to D.C. Today

    *My apologies if this is misplaced; I was unsure of which thread was most appropriate to park this in.

OK, I know this isn't technically part of the WMATC, but GLI serves the DC area and I thought I'd throw this one out there.  I was transferring onto the 71 bus home at Campbell Court in Downtown Roanoke a few minutes ago and noticed 2962 on the Greyhound side of the terminal, destination "WASHINGTON".

For all of you DCATZ folks up there that are aware of diminishing 12s system-wide, this would be a good day to have your cams and recorders ready!

Now on to the topic...:-).  I hear most of the remaining MC-12s have been transferred to Greyhound of Canada.  I think there are still a few stragglers in the Northeast.  I also saw one earlier this year in New Jersey.  I think all that are left in the northeast may be the later units with the DD S50 engines.  Never cared for those, but I couldn't get enough of the  DD 6V-92TA MC-12s.

Thanks Wayne; I will keep this in mind for future postings.  I know a lot of the MC-12s have been bought by private companies for further use, especially the 6V92 units which by far were my favorites.  However, the DD50 units have grown on me as they are the last of the 12s in service and are thus a rare breed.  Even in that awful White-Out paint scheme, they are still a sight for sore eyes.

I agree.  Those MC-12s look awful with their stainless being painted.  I had always been a big fan for the MC-12s since they came along in '92, but it's sad to see them now.  I do see plenty of former Greyhound MC-12s in their second career.

Really?  Are there any floating around the DC area, or did you see them on your visits back to NYC?  I'd like to know how close they operate to VA.  I do know that a 6V92 unit made its way to Carolina Trailways as I saw it here about a year or two ago.  I think GLI should restore one in its original livery.  After all, the 12 was primarily created for (and by?) Greyhound.

BTW, 2962 is still here and hasn't moved from the bay in over two days.  Not sure when (and if) it will make its way up to DC as prescribed by its roll sign, but you never know.

The last one I saw was on the NJ Turnpike just outside of NYC a few months ago.  Again, I never cared my for those units with the DD S50 engines and once Greyhound repainted  them in that full white color scheme, I didn't pay them much attention afterward.  I got used to painted stainless steel on the new looks, but IMO, it just doesn't look right on the MC-12.
