Why does Ride On operate the L8, T2, and Z2 metrobus routes on weekends?

Ride On took them over quite awhile ago.  It's much cheaper for Montgomery County to operate their own service than to pay for WMATA to do so.  Back when that first happened I thought eventually they would take over the weekday runs too, but not as of yet.  They had one of the Y routes which is now completely a Ride On (41 maybe???) route as well as the old Q4 which is now the RO 48.

I took a ride on 728 on the L8 today. Operator had to push it to Aspen Hill and back to Friendship because of the amount of passengers and dwell times at stops. I was wondering about the L8, T2, and Z2 stuff myself but didn't know the reason why County takes it over on the weekends. As of seeing things now, I can understand why.

Since we know why, my question is when did Ride On start running the L8/T2/Z2 on weekends? And was this around the same time of the Q4 becoming RO 48 or the T6 being replaced by RO 42 (34) and 46?

Maybe it's just a matter of time.  From a transit fan's perspective, I personally would like to see WMATA's presence remain in Montgomery County on weekends.

Here's a list of routes we operated at one point. Most of the routes have been operated by Ride On since 1992-1993.

C8 is pretty much what the 26 is today.
L8 only on weekends now.
N8 the old N8 is part of what today's 29 is.
Q4 today's 48.
T2 only on weekends now.
Y6 today's 41 but use to go all the way to Silver Spring
Z2 only on Saturdays now.

There are plenty more routes that I can list that Ride On has taken over from WMATA over the years.

You know what would be funny? I know you guys are talking about Mont County, but what if The Bus did some WMATA routes on weekends? Man, their service sucks, but hopefully, in about 10 years or so, they can be as up to par as Ride-On is.

Well... first they'd have to realize that people actually travel outside of normal business hours.  We may make fun of The Bus, but the real problem is in the county gov't.  You should contact your rep. to inquire/complain about the subpar transit service in PG county.

Complaining to the PG gubment would be like convincing Jessica Alba to divorce her husband and marry you.  Believe me, I have complained to Dwayne *ahem* I mean Jack Johnson and guess what he did, he gave it to the head chimp of DUH BUS and well I heard nothing since.

Sure, get people in a majority-Democrat county to not vote Democrat even if means a greater quality of life...

How do we know that it just isn't Jack? Jack's predecessors could have done something about it too.

They do have primary elections.  It is like DC, if you win the Democratic Primary, you will probably win the seat.
