Nice catch!  I actually prefer the "blue" scheme to the red scheme.  Are they retrofitting these buses with the traffic light technology that is supposed to be used on the 79?  Also, what other express routes does Bladensburg have?  Maybe this was painted in anticipation of the X9?

The 79 itself already has enough express buses. Currently there isn't enough express buses for two Bladensburg routes,  that's why 2464 and more are painted (or will be painted) in the express colors for when the X9 starts running.

Actually, the 79 has a few more blocks during rush hour (hence why you saw some regular buses on them). From the looks of it, I'm figuring when the X9 starts, a couple of the express 2810s might be assigned there.

Tritransit refers to signal light prioritization/pre-emption, where transit vehicles are equipped with emitters that signal traffic lights that a bus is coming through, and so the green time will be extended.

This is a project I've heard about since before the days of REX - that was 2004.  In fact, when some REX Orion VIs were equipped, I was already thinking "here we go again"...this is an oft-mentioned, never-implemented piece of intelligent transit technology that has not been applied in this area.

If only traffic engineers would understand the benefits of TSP for buses.  Since we operate a BRT bus with TSP on an express route, if the TSP is on, it messes with all of the stop lights that it comes in contact with, so that the signals thing it's an emergency vehicle and then it messes up the flow so we have to turn off TSP if they're on a non-BRT route and turn them on when they're on the BRT route.  I hate when engineers and planners get together.  It's a bad combination.

When I saw 2464 like this last week.   I suspected that it (and 2820) were painted for X9 service and maybe they're not applying the "express" lettering until the service starts.
