New Buses for Las Vegas coming soon....

Received word the other day that we won an $8 million State of Good Repair grant that will allow us to retire some of our older buses in lieu of new ones.  We'll be getting New Flyer Gasoline/Hybrids and early thoughts are we'll piggy back off a Minnesota order.  The 18 or so new buses will either retire 18 1998 NABI 40 footers or hopefully we can just do a mix of retiring some of the artics and some 40 footers. We're stretched a little thin in the 40 foot department so my hopes are maybe 13 40 footers get retired and 5 aritcs.  The new buses will all be 40 footers.  With all the double deckers we have, we don't really need as many artics as we used to.

Cool, I didn't realize that RTC had such a young fleet.  Sure is quite different from the first time I went there and they were running 17 year old D40s in full service.   Were there any buses that needed to be replaced between the 1990 (?) D40s and the NABIs?  Weren't there D40LFs somewhere in the mix, or are they younger than the NABIs?

Nice that you are getting new buses for the regular service now, though!

Yeah, all of the D40LF's are gone.  Those were pretty much replaced with the C40LF's and the recent NABI purchases.  The only bad thing with having such a young fleet is that it's going to be rough in 12-15 years when they have to replace all of them at once.  Hopefully we can get into a mode where there is staggered retirement rather than needing everything at one time.  Our vehicles rack up the mileage well before the 12 years anyway so that may help a bit.
