Memorable Transit Fan Trips

Chris and Perry,

You guys left out most of the former NYCDOT PBLs.  When we did our NYC trip, we actually rode all but 2 of them (Command Bus and Jamaica Buses).  To refresh some memories.  We rode Queens Transit (RTS) on the QBx1 from into Queens when we were going to the Hotel.  Leaving the Hotel we rode Triboro Coach (CNG Orion V) on the Q23 to the subway station, The highlight of the trip - NYBS fishbowl (1481) to Co-Op City, Liberty Lines MCI Classic on the BxM11 (after White Castle trip #2) and 3 from Green Bus Lines which were 2 RTS on the Q60 and the transit MCI Classic on the Q6.

You're right, Wayne!! I still remember that trip fondly.  Out of all of the busfan trips I did with you guys, that ranks #1 followed by the first time we all met up and had that crazy trip on the FFX Connector bus. 

I think I forgot to add VRE and MARC to my list too.  Actually the only times I've ever been on VRE was to do the annual ridership surveys while working for PRTC.  We always got sucked into doing those things for the VRE people. 

1481 on the NYBS, is that the one that's been preserved? Isn't that also the Corgi version?  I'll have to find my stash and look for it.

Hopefully you guys can add RTC Las Vegas to your lists soon too!! :-)

Agreed, The NYC trip us three did was one of the best trips I have taken. AAHHH The good times!!

Yeah that FFX trip (7797?) was great.  It's so cool because the outing itself was the start of things for us.

Re:NYBS 1481.  This bus was rescued by a couple of NYC area guys.  I'm not sure if they bought the bus from MTA Bus or from Nimco.  I'm also not sure what number Corgi used for their NYBS fishbowl, but I think it may ineed be 1481.  It's sad that I can't remember since I also have that model packed away:-).

1502 is the bus that was retained for the MTA Bus historical fleet.  Being a former NYBS bus, of course it already looked great, but they still decided to rehab it along with the others.  Now 1502 has a fresh coat of paint and super polished silver siding.

I did quite a few of the local trips and the NYC one was really the only one other than the SEPTA one where I went outside the area.  Once I had the kiddies, so went my busfanning!! LOL  I am glad I rode some of the newer equipment before I moved out here.

The NYC trip had many memorable moments from my trying to toss the cup from the bus while moving like Wayne did only to almost break my thumb to that hot blonde NYPD officer in that Bronx pizza place that caused me to forget what I was going to say to the cashier.

The SEPTA one with you and Chris was great.  That's when we parked in Wilmington and took the R2 to Philly and was later greeted with Philly's finest young ladies as well.  :-)

Mark,  that trip on the FFX Connector bus ruled.  Who knew us innocently having to sit back there would cause the whole back to be involved. 

I think one of my other memorable moments was when we were on the 49 at Glenmont and Der stepped off to take a photo of our bus and we started to leave without him.  The video of that was hilarious.  One moment taking a pic, the next minute the camera pointed to the ground as he's running after us.  You know what? None of us told the operator to stop because we were laughing so hard.  Good thing for that 10 minute light onto Georgia Ave. LOL

Is that the trip when we rode the "George"? when the new Smart trip fareboxes first came out? I remember some of the Philly trips gosh i still think the Riverline is my favorite LRT line. Maybe ill head back east someday.

The only time I rode the George route was when a regular 30' WMATA Orion V showed up on the route.  It may have been that day we rode to Tysons, I think you were with us.  Oren decided to put in the penny to hear the farebox chirp.
