Hey everyone.  Just wanted to let you know that I have a Road Champs Eagle coach in my project bin and originally thought about doing it in Trailways livery, but since there are so many Eagle toys and models of the Big Red out there already,  I was inspired by an old Bus World article from the early 90s and have decided to redo it in the old Prince William CommuteRide colors.

When the model is finished, it will boast the correct Budd 2-slot wheels all around in actual Eagle configuration (singles on the front and mid axles, and duals out back, as opposed to the dual tandems that Road Champs slapped on most of these).  If anyone's interested, contact me ASAP.  Plans are to put it on eBay for $50 plus insured S/H, but if you are a DCATZ member, I will waive shipping fees and include a free copy of the article along with the bus.

Any input or original photos of the real thing is welcome!
Once all the goats are rounded up, the German tourists are extradited, and the syrup trucks are returned, you'll have to admit that you never saw that one coming.

I might need to go ahead and just make an early reservation for this piece :-)  Thanks for extending an incentive to our members!

I loved driving those RTS's around.  I spoke to my former boss the other day when he was out in Vegas and he said that they sold them all off sometime last year....

I worked for them as a transit  planner from March 2004 to September 2007.  I've been in Las Vegas at the RTC ever since.

There were always funding issues when I was there.  We had to cut back Manassas OmniLink service, which had run until about 11PM, but they wouldn't fund it anymore and it is what it is today.  The Linton Hall Metro Direct, Rosslyn/Ballston OmniRide, North Route 1 OmniRide (since discontinued), and Route One OmniLink, along with putting the Dumfries bus down Old Triangle, were all things I was able to get done while I was there.  I had wanted to extend the Cross County Connector to Gainesville, but there wasn't enough support to do it...I had it all planned out from Manassas to that area too.  Oh well.

It's a little more difficult than just making it happen.  You have funding and vehicle issues to deal with, making sure that you have the operators to do it, making sure you have the money to do it.  Some things like buses being late may mean that the schedules need to be adjusted.  Just keep looking at transit systems that are hiring for planners and see what their qualifications are.  There are varying degrees of requirements and you don't have to have a college degree to be one either, despite the claims that one is needed.  You could start off as a bus operator and then work your way into one.  I've been in the transit industry in one form or another for almost 18 years.  I love it and I love that my hobby turned into a career.

Route Rex destination Woodlawn.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that!! Yes, I started Saturday OmniLink too!  I wanted Saturday Cross County serivce and I actually did a cost analysis of Saturday service to Franconia Springfield and we could have done it, but there was still a need for local contribution of funds which nobody would give us.
