Today, 7/1/2009, THE GAZETTE reported the following: "Montgomery County planners recommended last week that the state choose the rapid-bus option for the CCT, based largely on ridership projections.  The bus option also "increases flexibility" in building the CCT in segments and in pursuing financing, according to the staff report."  "The Montgomery County Planning Baord is expected to decide Monday night (7/6/2009) whether to support the Corridor City Transitway as a rapid-bus line or light rail.  Planning staff last week recommended the bus option and the new allignment, which would add three stops in the Shady Grove Life Sciences Center at the CCT's southern end - the Adventist, PSTA and Belward stations.  The state has final say, which is expected this fall.

The Montgomery County Planning Board adopted its planners recommendation and "recommended late Monday (7/6/2009) that a transit line planned for the Interstate 270 corridor be a bus rapid transit system, rather than light rail, and that the highway be widened with toll lanes that would be free or discounted to vehicles with numerous passengers" (according to THE WASHINGTON POST (7/8/2009). THE POST went on to report "Public officials and the Gaithersburg-Germantown business community have called for light rail as a more permanent investment, but Montgomery planners said it would attract too few riders to justify its higher cost under standards for winning federal construction money."  This recommendation will go to MDOT.
