According to Recovery.gov, dated March 5, 2009, $8.4 billion has been allocated for transit projects around the country. These grants will be for capital projects only and not for operations. Maryland is being allocated more than $179 million; DC $125 million and VA, $116 million.

The projects have to be ready to go within 180 days or the FTA begins taking the money back to be redistributed where it will be spent quickly.
