How was Metro operating on 9/11?

Did the system shut down in the 2001 attacks? I heard that DASH buses were used to transport people to Fredericksburg, is that true?

Metro shut down for like 17 minutes.  Pentagon Staten was closed or sometime but the rest of the system ran quite well on 09/11.

Okay, I was just wondering seeing that parts of the MTA up in NY were closed that day.
