Escape from hot steamy Washington, D.C. for a day in mid-20th Century style aboard the Franklin Inn, our newly restored air-conditioned 1949 Pennsylvania Railroad Coach, on her maiden voyage weekend.
Reminiscent of some of our innovative, fun, price-friendly railfan trips in the 1950s and 1960s, this journey is part of our new "Railfan Adventure Series" Trips.  This trip is bargain- priced as it is the break-in run on Franklin Inn.
After an early morning departure from Washington Union Station or Alexandria, sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery, as Amtrak's Regional train #67 takes us into the heart of the Old Dominion State.  Make new friends and relax in as the miles go by.

The trips run on Saturday 8/27/2011 and Sunday 8/28/2011.  Round trip fares are $39 for children under 15, $39 for DCNRHS members and $59 for Adult Nonmembers.  For information call 610-429-5858 or email to dover.agent@dcnrhs.org.

Due to Hurricane Irene and AMTRAK'S subsequent cancellation of trains south of Washington DC, these trips on 8/27/2011 and 8/28/2011 were cancelled.  A substitute trip is scheduled for 9/3/2011 and I was told that those who cannot ride it will receive refunds.

This trip was cancelled altogether when AMTRAK told DCNRHS that it didn't know when it would be able to operate service to Newport News.   DCNRHS will give full refunds.  Yours truly was looking forward to the trip and is in mourning.
