What's a "rarehead" you might ask?  Well, it's a term I just made up for a route that is hardly ever seen, used by only a few riders typically at odd times, and is seldom ever photographed.

Most large agencies have some rarely seen routes, or for that matter, destination signs that are seldom used or used only in the event of disruption.  DC is particularly interesting in that the inventory of potential "rareheads" is particularly impressive.  Take the "K11" for example.  One early morning trip to Potomac Ave on weekends and that's it.  Not every example is nearly as extreme, but I do have to wonder how many of WMATA's lines may never be recorded in photography for future generations simply because there are just too many of them.  For example, does anyone have photos of even the 43 and 93 lines?  How about the D5?

I wanted to start this thread as a means to share photos of some of WMATA's lesser known routes, whether it be something as fairly common as the 82 or D3, or something trickier like the C40 or H9.

I'll be trying to snag some of these as well, and will post them as I get them.

Does that include short trips? (like the 32 to Farragut Square instead of Friendship Heights).
What about routes that don't exist anymore? (5B, 28B, 24P, etc)
Anyways, here's some I have:

and although the D3 isn't much of a rarehead imo, here's a pic of a 9200 on that route

hmm....I thought I had more rarehead photos, guess not...
Route Q2. Destination: Silver Spring Station

It's a shame nobody has pics of the former 12 and 20 routes.
Blue Line Shuttle to Franconia-Springfield.

Want me to make a destination sign for you? Just send me a PM and I'll have it made in no time.

Some of the Connector's signs use the same destination headings (the route numbers and buses are of course not the same).  The 12C and 642 both use(d) "SULLY STATION," 12L and 631 both use(d) "LITTLE ROCKY RUN," the 20F and 652 both use(d) "FRANKLIN FARM."

Someone has to have something.
