I'm heading up to Boston this weekend for my first legit visit there in about 6 years, I don't count spending 2 days there in August 2009 as a real visit and I never rode any transit (though I did get a few photographs near my hotel).  Anyway, I know that Boston has been a popular destination of some of the other DCATZ posters recently, I figured I'd ask for some transit fanning suggestions, since I hope to have some time to explore.  I will be meeting a friend of mine in the Harvard Square area I think, so I can finally check out the trolley tunnel, but aside from that, what else is there to see?  I'm assuming all the old Blue Line cars are gone.  Thanks, in advance!

Yep. All the old Blue Line cars are gone.
A few of the places I've liked:
Harvard Square (of course)
Watertown Yard
Sullivan Station
Haymarket Station (a bunch of buses from every direction)
Forest Hills
Ruggles (I got a few pics from Ruggles Street)
Ashmont
Mattapan (MHSL in general)
Dudley Square
Silver Line Way
Kenmore
Cleveland Circle (I got some vids of Green Line trains coming in and out of the shops at Reservoir)

As for buses, I really loved riding the 57. I took that everyday. Fast ride from Kenmore to Watertown plus that stint around Newton Corner
The 39 was a pretty nice ride with Neo CNG tics and sometimes some DE60LFRs (most of them are on the 28).
The 111 is pretty nice and the ride across the Tobin Bridge is lovely (especially southbound).
The 1 along Mass Avenue is a pretty nice ride and heading across the bridge to Cambridge is pretty neat.
The 71 along Mt. Auburn to Watertown is something to experience from Harvard mainly when they run thge ETBs on there.
Express bus wise, I did take the 554 out to Waltham on a Neo AN440LF heading along the Mass Pike.

They are going to be doing a Green Line shuttle between Lechmere and North Station due to accessibility renovations taking place starting the 30th. So hopefully you might run into a bunch of bus action between North Station and Lechmere. When I went, they had a Blue Line shuttle between Maverick and Gov't Center. I got to ride on an RTS and a couple of New Flyers through the Sumner Tunnel.

Commuter rail wise: I only mainly took the Newbury/Rockport Line to/from Salem. It's no MARC, but runs pretty good.

I'm hoping to hit most of the places I didn't get to do last time the next time I head up to Boston.
