PHOTO: Egged's Newest Bus

The bus itself has been in service for a few weeks at this point from   what I understand, but I finally saw it with my own eyes for the first   time this afternoon, and got a few photos of it shortly after that.    There are actually 2 in service (at least), a second one showed up right   behind this one. (you can see it in the back of the photo).



These buses, in addition to having a new paint scheme, have 4 doors on   the passenger side, but I wasn't able to position myself at that   location to be on that side of the bus.
 
  Incidentally, the display on the destination sign is a greeting for Yom   Kippur that doesn't translate well into English, but appropriate none   the less since Yom Kippur starts tomorrow at sundown.  For some reason,   the message is only shown properly on the new buses, the last letters of   the last word in the greeting don't fit on the display on the other   buses (this wasn't a problem last year because the phrase was programmed   in a bit differently, with one word abbreviated).

   Are those 60' buses and are they made in Germany and transported to Israel?  L'shanah tovah and thank you.

It is an 18 meter long bus, which is 59.0551181 feet. 

European buses are made differently than US buses, in the sense one company makes the chassis and another makes the body, and they are usually sold separately from what I can tell.  In this case (and with many other Egged buses), the chassis came from Europe (MAN in this case) and the body was built in Israel. 

Here is a photo from the Egged Museum of a Leyland MK II chassis as it was delivered between the 1950s and 1970s by boat from England, the bodies were then built and installed in Israel.

Sweet bus!  I am rounding out a large model bus order for a customer in NYC that is having German HO scale models repainted in NYCTA livery, and five of them are MAN artics identical to this one.  The last two will be built in Select Bus colors.  Gotta say I love the green metallic paint on the one in your photo!
