It took me a year to finish this. It has every bus route WMATA operates except for the D51. It also has all the Metrorail Stations and places of interest. There may be one or two errors but its overall accurate.

Once you see it tell me what you think. If you're familiar with Google Earth and how it works, you'll be able to do a lot more things with this map.

Here's a preview of one of the routes I did below, the H6. The picture under the preview is the PDF map of the H6 from the metro website, just for comparison.

Most of the errors I noticed were the placement of the locations of the metrorail stations. So far I have noticed two station missing all together.

This is my first time using Google Earth. Give me some time and I will draw in the metrorail route alignments both existing and future (Tysons, Dulles, Loudoun County N route Silver line).

This is great...do you mind if I add it to the main site at some point?

No I don't mind at all. Be my guest. Since you downloaded it its yours now. Feel free to do what you want with it. Hey, add more routes if you want

Also I'm doing New York's buses now. Already finished Manhattan. Now I'm on Brooklyn.

Minor correction. 79 line southbound follows Rhode Island to 9th instead of L to 9th, all in all pretty good. I was going to do something like this with Google Maps. I think you can still import the file into maps as with Earth.

Next on the drawing board: Ride On :P.

I  did that before and it did not turn out right. Trust me don't do it. It will come out terrible in google maps. Also, I'm going to map Ride On's routes too.

Nice map. I haven't downloaded Google Earth since '06. When I get my new computer, I will definitly download it.

NG, if I put this on the site, would you still maintain it?

Sure. Like if new routes are introduced, they'll be added.  Also, I know there are some errors, I'll fix them.

How are you going to put Google Earth on here?

I think the only way I can update the map will be by:

1) I open the map in Google Earth on my PC.
2) After I update it, I'll uploaded on here. But how can that be done?

The uploading isn't really a big deal, believe it or not.....but it would be really cool if we could set it up some way that it has different layers for different time periods, and we can see how the routes change over time (too bad we can't see how the imagery changes over time!)...........or not -- we can go about that another way if necessary.

Let me play with Earth a bit and in the next couple days, let's put something together.
