New Amtrak electric in-transit to Northeast: Published June 28, 2013Locomotive_602 One of the new Siemens "Amtrak Cities Sprinter" electric locomotives is in-transit to the Northeast for testing. The locomotive will go through a variety of tests including runs on the Northeast and Keystone corridors in the coming weeks.  (ACS-64 No. 602 Photo by Amtrak Sacramento CA).

The unit, ACS-64 No. 602, is on the eastbound California Zephyr today. It will be in Denver on Friday evening and arrive in Chicago Saturday afternoon. Sunday evening it will be added to the eastbound Capitol Limited, train No. 30, for Washington, D.C. It will arrive in Washington on the morning of July 1.

Two other ACS-64 locomotives, Nos. 600 and 601, are currently undergoing testing in Pueblo, Colo.

Railfans are encouraged to track No. 601's journey across the country on the Amtrak Blog, Twitter, and Instagram using #Amtrak and #Siemenslocomotive.  (These locomotives have 8,600 horsepower and can pull 18 Amfleet cars at speeds up to 125mph.)
