Today at Silver Spring I saw Ride On #5243 which is an ex-Pittsburgh PAT cutaway on the #8 after the quake. The  destination sign actually worked too.

wait, Ride On got some more 5200s in the form of ex-PAT cutaways?

Yes they did. Since the Champions are having all sorts of issues and they want to retire the rest of the Helldorado fleet, they bought these as a "patch" until they get new buses which I also have to mention, be on the lookout for 13 new buses too.

Well the latest is that they ordered 12 Gillig Hybrids and 1 Clean diesel, all 40ft and going to Silver Spring. Now about the used PAT cutaways, they bought 15 but last word is that only 2 are in service.

1 Clean diesel? Must've cut it short with the funds for a 13th hybrid. Figures Silver Spring is getting these, but Gburg needs some love too. Has Ride On just quit on new CNG purchases for now?

Ugh, as I never liked those PAT "STVs", but I hope you guys are able to get pics of the PAT Cutaways.  Are they still in their old scheme but with a big R slapped on the side?

Intriguing...more 40 footers, especially for Silver Spring, to replace the cutaways.  Are these displacing 2001 Orion Vs to Nicholson Court to replace some of the remaining Phantoms?
My favorite buses:
1989 SEPTA AN440: 19 years in service
1989 NJT Metro Bs: 21 years in service
1990 WMATA 93/9400 Flxes: 20 years in service!
1990-92 Ride-On Orion Is: 17-18 years in service!

Tell me again I have no taste in buses...

I spotted 5236 at Glenmont yesterday, and I believe it must be one of the ex-PAT cutaways as well.  I got a photo:

That would certainly explain the different body design and the weird paint scheme, that's for sure.  If these are a recent acquisition, though, I'm surprised that they have the old Ride On logo on them, though, unless those are left over from when a number of the buses got the logo on the windows when Ride On started running advertising on the sides of the buses.

Great catch and thanks for the picture!  That's definitely a former PAT bus. This also makes me wonder what PAT is replacing these STVs with, but with the latest service cuts, I think the routes that used these almost exclusively have been cut anyway.  The 28X Airport Flyer, which used to use these, now uses typical 40 foot buses.

I just wonder how long Ride On intends on using these buses.

I would think that these buses still have a few more years left on them, considering that they're 2004 buses according to Ride On's numbering scheme.  Based on appearances, though, I have a feeling that these will have a relatively short career with Ride On, considering that (A) they didn't repaint the buses, and (B) they didn't even bother to put the most recent logo on them.

Otherwise, I got a bunch of photos of this bus, but only of the one side and the front and back.  I wasn't about to cross the bus loop to get pretty photos of the other side, since I was waiting for the Y or the 51 at the time, both of which board from Georgia Avenue, and not the bus loop.
