Which Flxibles had the suburban seats and the seats like the ones on the Orion V/VIs?

9830-9835 have suburban seats the same ones 9618-9620 had and the Orion VI's don't have suburban seats.

4051-4104 (we call them the soft seaters) have seating like those on the NABI 436, Orion V, and Orion VI.

4001-4050 have the thin-padded seating.

Ah HA!  Thanks very much for the clarification, Wayne.  Last time I rode a Metro E, I was confused by the soft "Orion V style seating", because I remembered them having the "old school" thin padded seats.

I guess the higher numbered ones primarily spent their time in NoVA, right?
My favorite buses:
1989 SEPTA AN440: 19 years in service
1989 NJT Metro Bs: 21 years in service
1990 WMATA 93/9400 Flxes: 20 years in service!
1990-92 Ride-On Orion Is: 17-18 years in service!

Tell me again I have no taste in buses...

They were all over.  Montgomery had some in the lower 4090's, Western had the 4050's through 4070's.  NoVA had 4100 through 4104 I believe.

Many of those Metro E's spent some time in Atlanta for the Olympics.  I remember 4050 specifically because when it returned, it had ads for the Olympics throughout the interior.

Were some portion of the first half of the 4000's at Western about 5 years ago?

Thanks. I was confused which Flxibles had those. I hope next time I'm down there I can get a ride on one of the suburban Flxs.

I rode past Montgomery Division the other day and saw 4066, and 4069 without signs and on 4066 looked like the numbers were scratched off on the side

Flxible

I knew the day would come when the newest WMATA Flxibles would be sans numbers and sitting in yards with parts missing.  :'(  But it really must say a lot about which ones were the better buses when there's a small handful of 93/9400s running around and Ds and Es are getting parted out for them.

Hopefully I can ride at least one when I come up to DC in March.  I don't care when it was built as long as it's a Flxible....
Once all the goats are rounded up, the German tourists are extradited, and the syrup trucks are returned, you'll have to admit that you never saw that one coming.

That always seems to happen with any large bus fleet - there are always a few hardy survivors which keep running long past the point they should have died.

Also, the E's are now going on 15 years old, so it's to be expected that some of them are now being removed from service.

Flxible

So what's this I hear that all of the 9700s are now retired?

Yup - Looks like they're all gone.  However, the Metro-D era hasn't quite ended yet.  There are still plenty of the 9800s operating at Montgomery Division.

Are the lower 9800s with the M11s still running?
