The Nostalgia Shoppers' Special is made up of subway cars in service from the 1930s to the 1970s, running along the lettered lines from the Grand Concourse to Coney Island. Ceiling fans, padded seats and incandescent light bulbs were state-of-the-art when these cars were first placed in service. The cars were removed from service 30 years ago and replaced by the stainless steel, climate-controlled trains that our customers have become accustomed to. Many subway riders have never experienced the charm of wicker seats and ceiling fans, but they are back for four Sundays of service, beginning Sunday, December 6. The holiday "Nostalgia Shoppers' Special" will operate on Sundays only, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., on December 6, 13, 20 and 27. (From Gothamist  )

Yup - The vintage cars operate over most of the V line.  They operate from the 2nd Ave (Houston Street) station in lower Manhattan and make local stops along the 6th Ave line and terminate at Queens Plaza station in Queens.  The cars are NYCTA's original IND system equipment which are car classes R1 through R9 series (or as we say R1/9).  The train consist of 4 cars which are #100 (R1), #401 & #484 (R4) and #1575 (R7-A).  I remember when the last of these cars were withdrawn from revenue service in 1977.

I think it is now a 6 or 7 car train.  They've done a great job with the museum trains in recent years.  I got to ride the Low-Vs for the first time this summer, it is impressive they still get trains built in 1917 to run as well as they do.
