CSS&SB in Michigan City (The South Shore)

Every rail fan I know just loves the way the South Shore (possibly our last historic interruban railroad still in operation) operates at street level through Michigan City IN.  The electric stainless steel cars are taller than some of the one-story buildings along the street.  It's like watching a model train set in real-life (lol).  Anyway Michigan City has wanted the tracks moved for years (there are something like 28 grade crossings).  The December 2009 RAILFAN & RAILROAD magazine reported the signing of a memorandum of understanding between NICTD (the South Shore operator) and Michigan City to move trackage, eliminate about half of the grade crossings and build a new station with parking.  "The projected completion date is 2015 and the cost estimated over the years for the complete task (is) $65 million."
