The G-20 Summit

Just a quick heads up, The G-20 Summit will be in Pittsburgh on September the 24th and 25th trying to really lay low on the whole Photo thing (which I really dont want to do because now Im gonna be bored lol) but to anybody who plans on coming this way I Wouldnt if I were you until its all over.

I sadly ended up booking a flight up on the 26th and a flight back on the 27th (it was a heat of the moment purchase when Southwest had their $30-60-90 sale in July and I want to see a Pirates game). Should I cancel since it seems like no hotel rooms are open that weekend?

if its on the 26th you should be okay hopefully because its gonna be on the 24th and the 25th most likely things should die down.

Seeing how hotel prices have gone down (and if worse came to worse I could stay at a hostel), I'd might as well keep my plans. Any fanning ideas and what should I do fare wise seeing that PAT is a bit behind the times in terms of fare. Would a roll of dollar coins and quarters do the trick?

I'd recommend buying tickets.  It's a lot easier to carry a book of tickets than having to carry too much change.  I think you do have to pay for transfers.

Which reminds me, Jonesy - with the latest fare increases, are my tickets from two years ago no longer valid?  I was kinda hoping to break away to Pittsburgh one (week)day soon to update my album.

Hotel's booked (I decided to pay a little extra and stay in Oakland rather than take the 28X multiple times from the Airport area), only thing is where would I get the tickets and where the fare zones are. So far I'm thinking of doing a ride like this to kill time before I can check into my hotel:

28X to the Mall at Robinson area
Back on the 28X to downtown, transfer to a 36A to get near South Hills Village
After killing some time, take the 42S for some rail action, then transfer to a 500 to my hotel

How much might this cost me? And what equipment might I get on the bus ends?

Hmm, I'm really not quite sure.  I always bought my tickets online and had them sent to me.  You might be able to find ticket sales locations on the website, at www.portauthority.org.

I found a list. Will probably run into a Giant Eagle somewhere, buy a Zone 1 ticket book, and just keep a load of spare change for when I cross zones or need transfers.

Prehistoric fare system aside, it'll be good to ride a politically competent transit system for once instead of an over-political, over-corrupt, greedy, and underfunded system that should be seized and given to its riders via eminent domain.
