I see that AB&W fishbowl has been done. There was also a Virginia Transit Co. bus redone as well. I tried going to their link and seeing the buses. All I get is a small picture of the ex GRTC 5303 restored to VTCo colors. Does anyone have a full shot of these 2 buses. That they are willing to post. Also AB&W oldlooks Where they originally Light Grey on the roof and windows .With a black stripe and a Red bottom. I'd like to see that photo too.
Thank you in advance ::)

Thanks for the two photos. I really liked seeing 4000. Paint wise it looked like the 6800's. The dead give away was the green all side way facing seats.

 ::) I remember one of the two buses New York sent back to D.C. It was numbered 4000 and it was a FLX. Much like the 2600 or 6800 series FLXIBLES Metro bus had. They had the full rear window. Not the smaller window of the 8000 to 8500 series buses. Never found out what the GM bus number was. It must not have lasted long either once it came to D.C.

Has anyone actually rode on a DC Flx lately? Are they really worn out. I've seen some over the summer while driving to Bethesda. They looked good and didn't smoke. I'm almost sure they have to hold on to some incase problems arise on the new space age looking buses that are being delivered. About how many would you say is on the active roster now?

Also note Metrobus 1912 was originally Baltimore Transit 1912. It was owned by George knarr. Charlie Neal has it's cousin 1909.

1400 was in Bladensburg years ago when it was still a division and overhaul center. It was stripped down to basically nothing. They said it was going to be restored. But, I don't think it happened. 1400 was the first TDH5304. It was the only one left in service with bi-fold center doors.1461 should have had the aluminum restored or painted aluminum applied it doesn't look right with theall white body and 1st generation livery.

Beautiful bus, Who did the restoration. It was 319 as stated earlier. GM TDH 5302. I used to own 1302,1306 and 1308. Due to health problems they were sold off. Where they are today is unknown. Great riding buses after being in service for almost 42 years. The rebuild of the 80's and strict hard maintenance policies kept them true work horses to the end.

I am looking for DC Transit,WMA,AB&W to metrobus photos. the early up to the rebuilding of the GM's and FLX buses. There were also two that I know of AM Generals that recieved the livery of the 80's. One a 40ft and a 35ft. The 40ft I remember seeing had the grey tinted windows. But, I don't recall the numbers on either one. If any one can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks Bryan

Remember when...? / Re: Old WMATA bus fleet of the 80's

The WMATA Neoplans were similar to the ones Baltimore had.Numbered in the 3700's. There was only 10 and all based at Eastern Div. They unfortunately rusted from the inside out. I never had a chance to drive them but, the operators never liked them because the steering wheels did not tilt. Todays operators are totally spoiled by. I started out driving with no power steering and no tilt wheels. and occassionally no mirror on the right side as well. Something totally unheard of today. If you had a standing load. Just put your right signal on and ease over if you didn't hear brakes screaching and horns blowing you could make it safely to the curb. Haha the good old days.

Remember when...? / Old WMATA bus fleet of the 80's

I noticed that no one mentioned the i'll fated problem plagued Neoplans that WMATA purchased. They mostly stayed off the street more than on and a few even burned. I even forgot the coach numbers the were assigned.

When WMATA sent the fishbowls out for rebuilding by BLITZ. Per the late general Manager Carmen Turner. The buses came back with alot of oddities. For instance 6633 came back with seats for a 1300 series which was AB&W 300's. 6607 preserved today with a high speed Transmission.
Apparently as they came down the rebuild line The power trains or seating were not lined up with the original bus. But it was nice to see so many were rebuilt and lasted as long as they did. DC has always had superb maintenance especially the VA divisions. 2600 which also survives today was the prototype bus. It was not redone at blitz it was done in house. The front of the dash was painted black but the operators side was still in DC Transit green and the bus still had dest.sign roller cranks and not the toggle switch with electric motors to work the signs.
