DC Transit Today / Re: WMATA new timetable designs
November 15, 2012, 05:31:45 PM
I was just looking at them. They look really nice. Now if only they could change up the maps. I'm guessing they're finalizing the designs for the system maps from the proposed ones.

A lot of those changes actually look a bit promising. I'm still wondering as to why Metro doesn't just give the 15M to Connector. From these proposed changes, it seems as though they probably could do with running that line instead of Metro. The A9 routing to McPherson Square came as a little shock to me. There will actually be buses running in the 9th and 12th Street tunnels in revenue service. Another thing was having it serve 9th & Maine SW. It's been years since any Metrobus went there (a la the 70).

Do not adjust your monitors. Yes, this even shocked me.

DC Transit Today / Re: Shepherd Pkwy September Shakeup

Bladensburg doesn't have all of the 4400s. I think Western has a couple. I think they have 4402 last I checked.

Here are a few other ones:
Blade does the H8 and K2
Western does all of the Deal trippers (at least in the morning)
Blade has a few trips on the G2 now
Royal does the 28F,G now (odd)
Montgomery lost the L line, but still kept the N line split with Western.

Blade seems to have gotten most of the 4400s and some of the suburban 4390s.

DC Transit Today / Shepherd Pkwy September Shakeup
September 30, 2012, 08:52:06 AM
Well, today has finally come. Shepherd Pkwy begins full term operation as Metro's newest division and they really did some shaking up with this one.
As expected, most of the old Southeastern routes are now assigned there and Annex has become weekday only as before. Here are a few things I've noticed so far (via Nextbus):

Northern got the 60s back (as expected)
Most SE PG service went to Shep (as expected)

A couple shockers:
Bladensburg does the 74 and H8 now
Four Mile Run STILL does the P6 (although it looks like a split between Shep and FMR on Sundays now)
Some of Northern's 3700s went to Western and Shep (ironically 3945 is on the G2).

Tomorrow will be the rest test to see what all was shaken up with this pick, but the interesting things so far is there are LFAs on routes that never had them and alot of buses from other garages were transferred around. Bussian Roulette at its best.

I guess they finally were able to get the software to program the signs.

3945 was probably a Foggy Bottom trip (also, I thought Western didn't have any of them left). Also, as for Ride On, if they wanted someone to program Luminator signs, why not ask around?

Oh lord. Another issue with Ride On. At first, I thought it might've been a speeding issue, but if it's brakes, another series of buses that might have issues.

I've had times where I was the only person on the bus from Shady Grove to BWI Airport when it first came out. Sat right in the back and fell asleep. I knew it would eventually catch on.

Old school boxes or GFIs? They need to put the new fareboxes on these buses so that they can take smart cards.

It was a matter of time before that happened. It took seven fires to make them realize that these death traps needed to be sidelined. Cutaways are an abomination and are a compromise of safety, ride quality, and price. Putting a bus body on a truck chassis is no substitute for a heavy duty bus. At least Howard Transit started getting Gilligs as well as PG County. Montgomery County should just get rid of all of their cutaways in the coming years just as a precaution. From the NBC4 clip, I did see a 3900 at Nicholson so they are coming in but not quick enough. It's just been an eventful year for both Ride On and Metro with these bus fires.

I found this this morning and this seems really interesting
