It is confirmed so far that 6101-6106 have moved to Montgomery from Annex, and 6214 and 6217 moved to Annex from Montgomery, I'm not sure about 6212, 6213, 6215, and 6216 though (last I saw 6210 and 6211 was not too long ago so I think they're still at Montgomery).
Some Reston Limo cutaway was on the Bethesda Circulator about 90 minutes ago, as opposed to the usual trolley.

The new NABIs. The ISL G on these is really nice.
Are any of the 60' NABIs operating on the 5A? I haven't seen one on the 5A for at least a month.
June presents the last days to spot 2W, 12-, and 20-series routes out in Fairfax County.
The tics on the 5A might have been sidelined for now because the passenger loads don't warrant them as they did back in the beginning of the year.
The 2W, 12 and 20s aren't really busfan friendly routes because they are mainly rush hour directionals with few contra-flow trips back to Vienna. The 2W is mainly a shuttle which run weekdays. Those routes transferring to Connector really won't make much difference with West Ox in close proximity. Speaking of West Ox, does anybody know how North county operations have changed and what operates out of WO.

They said that artics on the 5A was just a pilot and there were no guarantees that they would remain at FMR. I haven't seen any posted sightings of them back at Bladensburg though.
I've lost count on which buses are still wrapped in green & which are no longer. 4 more of these 40' Orion VII are no longer wrapped in green as of now (6/4/09).
Landover added more buses to their fleet:
9306, 9323, and 9395. Man Landover is getting an aweful lot of Flx-Bs.

ART
5288, 5292 41
5405 is at Nicholson, was on the 23 on Wednesday afternoon and again today
One of the new ART NABIs passed me yesterday, it was slow enough to make my stomach turn but too fast for me to read the number.
I saw 5256 on the 51 yesterday, which makes me wonder why did they split the fleet numbers. Some are before the first batch of NABIs and some are after.
And I thought they way THE BUS numbered their bus fleet was weird. At least they go up in later orders.
Second NABI should have offered the choice to order the old design along with the new one, like New Flyer, but hey I don't run them, I just watch them.
I'm wondering the same thing. The last order was in the 5270s, but this order is in between 5250s, 5280s, and 5290s. Then again, it is contracted same as how you have a gap in the 9700s between the Orion VIIs and D35LFRs at FFX.

so...there is no 9769?
I think ART is stuck in county numbering, like Fairfax. They probably can't go past 5299, maybe not even that high. You'd have to look at stuff like the Mobile Commuter Store(s) and other Transit Services vehicles to see what they are numbered to see what constraints there might be to keeping the numbers consecutive.
Another theory: replacement numbering.

Not warranted my ass, I had to stand holding onto the farebox bar at the windshield on May 28 on an Orion VII, passed 5401 going the other way SRO, and got seats on 5402 on June 3 only because I got there early. When we got to Hernon-Monroe, it was SRO.
Is it mostly those Herndon-Monroe folks that compose of most of the crowd on the bus or just the Dulles travelers with luggage?

Herndon-Monroe...like over 80% of the passengers got off there when I rode the 5A that one time.
Also, that's strange that 6442 is at Western...I wonder if 6443 is still at Northern. Also, I saw 6453 today on the 37 and it had the MetroExtra sign display.
I decided to head over to ART territory and ride the new 77. Mainly new NABIs assigned to that line today. 5252 is another oddity to the bunch adding to the skepticism of where the numbers stand.
One more from yesterday:
9305 at 4th and Pennsylvania, sign wasn't working and I couldn't see the block from where I was, but it came from Constitution and continued on Constitution heading westbound
From today:
6444 deadheading to Western
Saw 3 or 4 New Flyers parked at Western but didn't get numbers
Definitely sounds like replacement numbering now (to an extent anyway)...
From yesterday:
3904 on the V14 (Deanwood Station) First time EVER seeing a 30 foot on the V14. That surprised the hell out of me.
9337 on the P12 (Eastover)
From today:
9309 on the F12 (New Carrollton Station)
9328 heading to New Carrollton (couldn't see what route it was)
Is it me or is Royal giving away their Flx-Bs to Landover? Something don't seem right.
Passing by Landover tonight yielded a bunch of Flx Bs and Ds parked at the rear of the garage. The way the Flyers are trickling into service, the Metro Bs might reach their 19th birthdays. I didn't think that this was possible. But here is another possible interesting sighting.
2636 on the X2 this evening.
Saw a PRTC MCI leaving the Pentagon in a new full body paint scheme that is like the new Greyhound blue...same color that's on their schedules, if you have seen them. I'm bad at catching numbers lately!

When exactly will the Flxibles turn 19?
Most were built in 1990/1991 - so next year, if not already for some units.
2625 on the 80 (almost immediately behind a repainted C40LF, I was on my bike coming up Virginia Avenue and was a block away from it so I couldn't see the number on the C40LF, by the time I got to the next light the Orion VII was coming along)
2118 on the 70
I saw 3 New Flyers on the 30s but I'm pretty sure they've all been observed and accounted for by people here so I didn't commit the numbers to memory
I did go by the Holocaust Museum without knowing what had happened there, but didn't really see what sort of impact the street closures as a result of the shooting had on buses (traffic on Constitution Avenue was jammed, I turned south on 15th biking around the police line on the sidewalk, and then headed east on Jefferson, 15th and 14th were closed south of Constitution, not sure about closures on Independence).
I Street was packed. I knew it wasn't normal rush hour traffic when I asked someone why there was so much traffic and she mentioned the shooting at the Museum.
As for the PRTC MCI in the Greyhoundish scheme, I saw one of them at Crystal City on Monday (375).

Those were 1990 units. Those started to see service in August and I spotted the first of the non wheelchair lift units in early September. Since the non wheelchair units have long since retired that just leaves the remaining wheelchair lift units. The first bus I saw was 9363 running on the F14 and then 9368 on the A12 at the old Capital Plaza.

I guess it was August or sometime summer 1990, I remember riding one when it was really hot out and the a/c was great. My first B was 9382 on the old C2 that ran from Beltway Plaza to Wheaton via PG Plaza and Riggs Road. It was nice to get a different type of bus on a Montgomery route at the time because it was just the same old same old until then. The Flx New Looks were getting to be unreliable and the wheelchair lifts were horrible which made it difficult when we had to pick up someone at Inwood House on Univ. Blvd.
Nice to see PRTC vehicles getting repainted. Their older scheme was getting a bit tired looking. I understand they may be getting hybrid vehicles in their next order of 40 foot, non Commuter-type coaches. Don't know from who though. I will try to find out more from my contacts that I still have there.
Wow...first it's 6320 at Western, which makes it odd to have a big break from that and the 6380s...and now we have 6350...
I'm guessing that Western is their "hotel" before moving in to their permanent homes...unless these are their real homes, that would mean that we'll see a big mix-up when the rest of the 63/6400s come into service

Anything other than Gillig would be a surpise. I kinda like the new scheme albeit it will probably only go to the Omniride ones for now.
They've had good luck with their Gilligs and I really like driving them too when I was there, particularly the Phantoms. The Advantages just had a silly driver's area, but it was still ok to drive here and there. Although when I did my route timings, I preferred an Orion or occasionally for fun, I'd take out an RTS.
I'd love to see photos if anyone has a chance to post.
Just saw 2223(!) at. Montgomery. Could this be the return favor for Western using some of Montgomery's 42LFA's?
How long can it take to re-govern an engine (especially since it was over-governed by the manufacturer) and remove some rear wheel covers?
WMATA can remove the wheel covers, I don't know, though, how long it takes to regovern a bus.
Some I guess sad but expected news. Some of the Metro Ds are starting to be retired and this might answer Brandon's question why is Landover getting some Bs. I assume those Ds being retired are some of the worst off buses, or buses that really wouldn't warrant expensive repairs. Right now in Carmen E Turner are about 4, don't know the numbers but assume those buses parked at the back of Landover will soon be retired.
The beginning of the end. Such a sad time but was expected. I didn't expect a D to be retired earlier than a B.

Most of the 9300-9400 are gone. I'm not suprised that some Ds would be at the end. They've been all over, but most have been workhorses at Northern, Montgomery and Landover for years.

Well the repowered Orion Vs (9600) were supposed to outlast the Metro Bs................well you know what happened. There are Bs that are in better shape than some of the Ds, so some Ds being retired isn't a surprise.
For those who didn't remember there were GM new looks that outlasted, by far the AMGs and also when the RTSs, Gilligs and Flx new looks were retired, so were the last of the GM new looks, so it isn't unusual.

WMATA can remove the wheel covers, I don't know, though, how long it takes to regovern a bus.
Aren't engines advanced enough at this point that re-governing an engine only takes a laptop to do? Surely if the problem is New Flyer governing all the buses to city speeds it can't take that long, can it?

And not necessairly a bus observation, but am I the first person to notice that the Stop Requested sign on the LFA's a) looks like a Lite-Brite and b) looks creepy too?
One of the Orion VIIs, I forget which one, had this sign as a demo...but I think calling it anything other than a Stop Requested sign might be overthinking it :-p
By the way, saw a MetroAccess vehicle in the new paint scheme..........surprisingly (I guess) in red, not blue or some other color that would differentiate it. I guess when there's red, white/silver, and blue...there aren't too many choices. It's still a white base though, like 5311 was at first.

In the VERY brief time I was in the DC area today, I saw 9399 on the 96 by Union Station (at least, that's what the rear sign said. :o I couldn't believe I was looking at a Flxible on a Saturday, much less one of my good old L10 Metro Bs! :o Too bad I couldn't run out and ride it... :-[
2389 laying over at Fort Totten, signed "R3 CALVERTON" (no photo, didn't have my camera with me since I was on my bike)
At least 2 D42LFAs were on the E line today, I didn't get numbers on either one though since I was too far away to see them
Hey guys bad news: 3 Flx-Ds at CET are now retired! And if WES is correct it looks like at least 7-10 more are up next. Landover had 9324 along with 9340-9344. 3 DE42LFAs were visible at Landover this time where the eye could see. I didn't see the 3rd one but 2 of them were numbered 6346 and 6355 WITHOUT the wheel covers.
Saw a mini circ heading down Veterans Pkwy earlier.
6016 and 2084 were doing J7/J9 trips this afternoon. I'm used to seeing the occasional hard seater D40LFR on the J7/J9, but an Orion VI is extremely rare.

2545 was on the 32 heading for......................Pentagon. And this bus had just passed Washington Circle, heading towards Georgetown. It was probably goingt to terminate in G-town, but it's so funny seeing something that weird.

What it looks like is that those buses are accepted at Landover and then driven over to Carmen E Turner to get the wheel covers put on, installation of the fareboxes, radio etc, as Bladensburg that used to do it doesn't anymore (I have passed by Bladensburg a lot and have rarely seen any LFAs there) I have seen LFAs sitting in Landover before, locals and expresses, and the next day they aren't there. As those come in, the buses in the back are probably those that are getting their fareboxes taken out, parts stripped for other buses etc.
That's my guess.
Hey guys hope all is well but this is whats happening the wheel covers have to come off the MD division's buses for the fact of they do not fit the Mdot specs for transit buses

NOTES:
It looks like all, if not most, of the 1998 Orion Vs that previously operated out of Western are going to Royal. As of now (6/19/2009), 4335, 4341, 4343, 4347, 4349 & 4350 have all transferred to Royal from Western. It looks like Western is ridding itself of its 1998 Orion Vs & sending them to Royal & in return, it is receiving New Flyers.

The 9600 (aka the nopowers) were probably a disappointment in that they really didn't clean the air as much as the EGR 50s was supposed to, also they were woefully slow, couldn't get up a hill, even if they were on steriods and there were probably a few things that were their early downfall that I didn't mention.
IMO the Ds and Es weren't built as well as the Bs, but liked them nonetheless. It could be that some of the 9700s were worse off than some of the better Bs, so why keep buses that suck, when you can keep buses that still can run pretty decently.
Let's just say that the Flxible era in DC (make that everywhere) is coming to an end, get your pics, get your vids, get your rides, because soon the Flxes will be gone like the Macks, AMGs, Brills and Orions........wait my mistake.
Piggybacking on WES, the 9600s and many later EGR S50 engines had big issues in the EGR systems. Once, an FFX Connector official told me he wanted to dump the 2001 Orion Vs before the 1998's, because of their EGR issues. They were a maintenance headache that didn't really reduce emissions, and...guess why they haven't made any DD50s in the last few years...
EGR was the nail in the coffin that was the Series 50s demise and CAT ending their transit bus engine operations, there's only two choices so far for transit/motorcoaches: Cummins and Volvo. I'd love to see Volvo emerge back in the U.S

John Deere got out of the CNG engine business in 2007.
I think it was an economic decision, they really didn't make a lot of units and the CNG engines were likely only used in transit anyway.

Random trivia: IIRC, the 1998 Orion Vs that are now being reported as having moved from Western to Royal have never switched divisions before, a rarity of sorts for WMATA (though buses assigned to Western have a tendency to stay put for awhile).

Why are the 6100's bolded for the Montgomery routes when it appears they are there regularly? Just wonderin'......
The lowest 6100's just moved to Montgomery from Annex and somehow are still a big deal.
2616 on the 80
4287 was being towed along P Street, this was last running on what looked to be a Silver Spring bound S4.

Just moved? It has been at least a month. I think it is time to consider their presence at Montgomery normal.
