Title: WMATA Solicitation for 7000 Series Cars
Post by: WMATAGMOAGH on February 25, 2009, 09:56:44 PM
John posted this link on Suchat earlier today, interesting reading:

http://www.wmata.com/business/procurement_and_contracting/solicitations/view.cfm?solicitation_id=2382 (http://www.wmata.com/business/procurement_and_contracting/solicitations/view.cfm?solicitation_id=2382)

Of note:

No railfan window on these cars. The left side cab view will be obstructed by an equipment locker as specified here:

Equipment Locker. The Equipment Locker, reference Contract Drawing 7000-13, is located on the left side partition wall. It contains equipment rack space.

11.15 EQUIPMENT LOCKER
On the 6000 Series, a Parking Brake Compartment is located in the left side cab against the left side partition wall. It contains a hand-actuated parking brake, ATP cut-out and horn cut-out.
For the 7000 Series the Parking Brake Compartment will be replaced with a full height Equipment Locker in the A-car. The Equipment Locker shall be located on the left side partition wall and contain rack space for mounting electronic equipment and a 110VAC convenience outlet (see TS 17.4). The door shall swing out without interference and allow access to the equipment contained within

Also of note, these will be the first WMATA cars since the 1000 Series to have 5 exterior destination signs, and it appears they will be full color LED displays.

Take a look at the drawings online and see for yourself.  The only view will be through the cab door itself, and my guess is they will partially obstruct it the way they do already.
