Title: "Outdated" Articulateds
Post by: LandoverDivision on February 18, 2009, 09:00:31 AM
I'm pretty sure everyone has seen that WTOP video on YouTube when they were introducing the NABI 60-BRTs. In that video they said that when the Benning Road project is complete, these are going to replace the current artics on the X2. WMATA doesn't plan to retire these soon so where would they go if Blade Division only uses these for the X2? Here's what I'm thinking:

Since Northern has NABIs and Neoplans and the soon to come DE62LFAs, they really don't need more artics.

Montgomery has NABIs already and they are getting the 62LFAs, so they can't get them.

I'm thinking either West Ox or Landover should get them. What do you guys think?

West Ox is going to get 42LFAs plus even with a route swap, I don't think there is any need for artics on other VA lines other than the 5A. The NABIs might be put into reserve just in case. Also, Landover could spare maybe 2 or 3 artics depending on the demand. I know the F4 seems like the only route that could use them, but I think the headways might need to be looked at first before considering putting artics on that line.

I can agree on everything you said except the F4 being the only route that needs artics. T18, P12, and other routes need them too.

I would like to see Landover haveing artics and on the F4 we might even have to consider the Artics that have like 2 or 3 ariticulated joints for that line but that route can have some tight turns though.

After riding the B30 from BWI to Greenbelt last weekend and hearing the stories of the 5400's handling service during inauguration weekend, that route would do great as an artic route. If the funding for more runs isn't there, putting artics in could alleviate the congestion that often happens.

That actually makes sense.  Put artics on the B30, and then put the standard buses that run there on other routes, allowing service increases on the PG (or other) routes that need them such as the F4.

Artics on the B30 should deffintaly happen but then might want to overhaul them becaues of the bad shape the NABI buses are in and i barely see artics on the the X2 all i see is a convoy of C40LF's following each other packed with people and i actually saw an artic on the X2 packed in the pass.
