New Carrollton, Greenbelt, Silver Spring, Rhode Island Ave, and Pentagon are my favorite stations.
Lists don't tell us anything - open up! Do you have history at these stations, do you like the construction, the connections, what?
L'Enfant Plaza (4-way connection).
Union Station (I shouldn't have to say why you should know.) LOL.
Greenbelt (B30, 87, 88, 89, 89M C2, Beltway Plaza, Beltway, the works)
Pentagon (So many buses!!)
Pentagon City (The mall duh)
Silver Spring because of the massive amount of buses and the service.
Oh yeah Largo Town Center because the Blvd. is like my favorite place to go and the station has that atmosphere that just gets me pumped.
Silver Spring (the volume of buses, even if crippled, is amazing...even without my home station bias!)
Wheaton (the escalators and the nearness of shopping)
Friendship Heights (the only two-jurisdiction station in the system)
Dupont Circle (the north entrance is surreal)
Rosslyn (the unique setup and the "Welcome to Virginia" sign on the lower level is a nice touch)
Fort Totten (the random transfer station in the middle of nowhere plus the half-tunnel/half-open cut lower level makes it the enigma of the system)
Pentagon City (shopping and not-government-sensitive bus transfers)
Rhode Island Avenue (the heights and the view towards downtown, the area near the station largely sucks)
West Falls Church (one of the western Orange Line stations had to make it, why not the one with the best bus connections?)
Gallery Place (be there after a Caps game and you'll understand...)
New Carrollton (Silver Spring with no shopping, less buses, more trains, and a longer ride downtown)
New York Avenue (home to the blueprint of future Metro architecture)
Prince George's Plaza (the landscaping within the station)
Columbia Heights (there's an interesting glow with the station...the redevelopment of the neighborhood helps too)
Greenbelt (the B30 is a godsend...)
Largo Town Center (if the planned Wegmans ever opens down the road...)
In no particular order:
Dupont Circle:
- Was my 'home station' when I lived in DC.
- Visited the station many times during it's construction.
- Station is a one of a kind. It is the only precast concrete 22 coffered arch vault station built in an excavated rock gallery.
- Date opened 01 17 1977.
Metro Center:
- Perfect symmetry in the transept where the two station vaults cross.
- Floor square footage in station is greater then the square footage in a typical Wal*Mart store (not Wal*Mart Super Center) 127,504.27 square feet.
- Date opened .03 27 1976, 07 01 1977
Anacostia:
- Nice adaptation of the arch design to accommodate that fact that the station is to shallow to allow the construction of a typical coffered arch vault.
- Date opened 12 28 1991.
Rhode Island Avenue:
- Alignment of the station frames the Capitol dome under the platform canopy (Shady Grove platform).
- Date opened 03 27 1976.
Eisenhower Avenue:
- Only elevated twin platform station with a gull wing canopy.
- Date opened 12 17 1983.
U Street:
- For sentimental reasons only, Was the last station built using the original Harry Weese 22 coffered arch vault design.
- Date opened 05 11 1991.
Arlington Cemetery:
- Perfect design for it's location.
- Date opened 07 01 1977.
Prince George's Plaza
- Another perfect design for it's location.
- Date opened 12 11 1993.
