Title: Only in Las Vegas....
Post by: Perry on January 13, 2009, 01:34:38 AM
Today was the first Monday of our service change.  Fares went up, two routes were discontinued and we increased the price of the Transit Guide from a quarter to a dollar.  Believe it or not, the increase in the Transit Guide was getting a lot more angrier responses than the fare increases at times.  Big deal, it will keep people from tossing it around like they were when it was only a quarter, plus we needed to recoup some of the costs to print.

Anyway, with all of the bus stop issues we still had, some route confusion by operators, the funniest thing was my boss shows me a picture of the back of one of our Deuce coaches that was running on the Strip.  I forgot what show it was advertising for, but it had a sign on the back that read, "Honk if you're Ho^^ny".  It spelled it out though!!  The bus operator called in and said, "I think my bus is on fire because everyone keeps honking at me!!"  He hadn't realized that was on the back of his bus, so they pulled it off the street for safety concerns and the fact that so many people were blowing their horn at the bus.  I don't know what we're going to do since that company paid money to advertise on the bus, but I just don't like it.  I know sex sells in this town, but the bus was one of the last things left pure!!!  I can't wait to hear the fallout from this one.

It gave everyone a good laugh on a fairly stressful day.  Luckily by the end of the day, the bus stop issues for the most part were resolved and the buses were running as they should.  I'm curious how our ridership does with the fares going up.
