I heard from an operator I know that they had to wear those vests. She told me they were required to wear them in the garage area and the lots, but I don't know if they have to when driving their routes. I have seen alot of operators with them.

and only recently.  Could it be some security thing?  I feel safer already.

Probably a safety thing as well. It would make them more visible in the yard in dark conditions and low light settings. At least Metro is looking out for their employees.
