Title: Snow in Vegas ? ---HEY PERRY!!!
Post by: coneyraven on December 18, 2008, 10:24:23 PM
Perry,

And to think that when you left here --- you were also leaving winter behind ---  By the looks of it, you've had more snow than us...

Haha, yes, we had two storms.  Mondays gave us 2 inches here and over two feet in the mountains.  Yesterday's storm gave us 2 more inches, almost 4 at the airport, 8 in Henderson and another foot and a half in the mountains.  They are getting great skiing up there.  The mountains usually get a lot but it's rare for the Valley to get more than a trace.  My wife took some great pics of the moutains that you can see from our living room.
Has the DC area even had any yet?  The drivers here went bonkers on Monday but I was proud of them yesterday. People actually drove with their lights on and gave some distance as opposed to Monday when they were going all over the place.

Central New York is going to get hit hard tomorrow.  Last I heard, estimates ranged from 7 to 12 inches of snow during the day tomorrow.  We've had a few inches here and there on other occasions this season as well.  My friends and I are already making tentative plans to go sledding on the hill in the photo below tomorrow night (though it is technically illegal, that doesn't stop anyone).  Driving to Maryland on Saturday might be interesting though, we will have to see what happens.

Here is the sledding hill, and this isn't even the steepest part!

That's one hell of a view, Perry.  We had one light dusting approximately 3 weeks ago, to answer your question, that lasted about ... well for about an afternoon.  Didn't stick to roads, just grass.  We had a Winter Storm Watch or Warning for today but the sun was out when I woke up and we didn't get a drop.  Or flake.  It'll be a green Christmas this year.

Thanks Tristan.  I love that you can come outside and look in any direction and see the mountains.  We drove to the top of them during the summer at Mount Charleston. It's about 11,000 feet above sea level, while the rest of the valley is about 2,000.  The temperature is usually about 30 degrees cooler too, which is nice when it's over 100 down here.  Not so nice when it's only 50 here!

I guess it's still a little early to get snow there.  Most of it is gone from here.  You can see a little on the tops of the mountains though.

The valley has an elevation of about 2,000 -- that is about the same as Frostburg
