Title: New streetcars in Portland, Oregon
Post by: WMAveteran on December 12, 2008, 12:52:35 AM
The December 2008 edition of the NARP NEWS reported the following: "For the first time since the President's Conference Car (PCC) streetcars were built in the 1940's, an American company is building a modern version of the streetcar (there has been domestic production of light rail vehicles in recent years).  United Streetcar, LLC is a newly formed subsidiary of Oregon Iron Works."  "United Streetcar is working with SKODA, a Czech Republic-based company that . . . built the original cars currently used on the Portland Streetcar system."  "United Streetcar will be building new cars for the next streetcar extension on the East Side of Portland."

Portland's at the top of my list for travel destinations since I knocked out SFO (top of my revisit list tho) in 2007.
