Arlington Transit bus drivers to strike Monday morning
July 20, 2008 - 9:42pm

ARLINGTON, Va. - Forty-eight Arlington County bus drivers will be going on strike Monday morning.
The drivers are members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. AFSCME Lawyer Charles Smith says the drivers are upset with working conditions, wages, and the firing of a negotiator a day after a negotiation session. It is unclear how long the strike will last.

The strike will have an impact on 5,000 people who use Arlington buses. Arlington Transit Bureau Chief Stephen Del Guidice tells WTOP that ART has contingency plans in place for Monday, including bringing in drivers from other areas, to try and keep buses on schedule.

Riders who have concerns about their bus route are asked to check the ART website.

Considering most of the routes in Arlington can easily be done on WMATA, I can't imagine this is going to cause that much of a problem. I think the 51 to the hospital may really be one of the only ones that inconveniences folks, but even that could be done by getting a Lee Hwy bus from Rosslyn.  It would have been nice if the media could have posted that for those that may not know that instead of making it sound like Arlington is going to be crippled by this.
