So I'm perusing through the Black Friday ads and I see that Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student is on sale at most places for about $70. For whatever reason our computer doesn't have MS Office. Does anyone have experience with MS Office 2007? Is it worth trying to go out on Friday to get it?
That version lists about $140. It is one of the lesser verions that doesn't include MSAccess, but most people don't use Access anyways. Most new computer will come with Microsoft Works, which is very, very basic. Most don't come with the Microsoft Office suite included, but some companies (like Dell) will allow you to pay extra to get MSOffice included.
I've used it plenty of times and I've upgraded some of my more advanced users from Office 2003 to 2007 and some like the new interface. I think Microsoft went too far with the new interface and tried to reinvent the wheel. In my opinion Office 2007 is less intuitive than earlier versions, but it's fine once you get used to it. As far as performance, I haven't heard many complaints. Excel2007 seems to be more robust than earlier verions.
Thanks Wayne, I knew I could count on you for good advice! Yeah, I don't need ACCESS, not for home at least. I just want the basic Word and Excel but that's it. I wish they just sold both of those separately. It is a good deal taking off $80 for it, and I've seen the demo which is really strange vs. what I'm used to using.

Always glad to help. You can buy the MSOffice applications separately, but in your case purchasing the suite/bundle is a better deal. In addition to those apps, you'll also have MSPowerpoint and Outlook.
Word of caution: there's no "Classic" interface for Office 2007, so you might want to poke around at office.microsoft.com for a minute; I think they have 180-day trial versions you can download, maybe not...but just see if you'll be able to work with the new interface. If not, I have a copy of Office 2003 that I never used, yours for the asking.

Dude, I was just kidding! Although when we moved here last year and drove from VA it wasn't that expensive even with gas more than it was today. Plus if you drove with other people you split it up......
