WMATA and Fairfax Connector have envisioned the truncation of some route, creation of new routes and the changing of paths of others. The study area of the Dulles Corridor Metrorail Project did not extend into Prince William County, besides Prince William County is not a member of the WMATA compact.

WMATA does not have any statutory authority to operate in Prince William County. It cannot just march into Prince William County and start a bus route. WMATA can barely afford to operate the bus routes currently within its jurisdiction. In fact, according to THE WASHINGTON POST, DC DOT is seeking to privatize some of its current WMATA run DC routes and the DC Circulator. Additional routes in Prince William County are a PRTC issue.
