Title: July 2013 Observations
Post by: Chargerdodge9 on July 02, 2013, 10:54:14 AM
It's that time again. I'm moving some posts I made yesterday to this new page.

Spotted Dash Orion V #67 in a accident earlier this morning at the Braddock road Metro involving a sedan. It was not serious. Also, the Designlines are still on ART property. And I saw a Greyhound MCI J4500. I didn't even know they had those.

4366 on the 28A with non working signs
4297 on the 16G

29K 2116
9A 3032

Apparently, #2118 is still at Four Mile Run. I noticed as I was passing the depot on the 9A, the front bumper was missing on the Orion V. So I guess it was in an accident because it is still on the same lift that I reported last time.

BTW, I forgot to report this the other day, saw #2614 on the 38B. This bus interesting because it is unusually loud compared to most of the other Orion VII OG CNGs.

Is #2551 now a Bladensburg bus? Someone reported seeing it on the H8 yesterday.

It's true. I saw it the other day on the API. I also heard that 2519 is back at FMR
Not sure if I mentioned earlier, but also on the API the other day I saw 2650 on the X9

It was never though they would be seen in service again, but it looks like a few of THE BUS's HDXs have returned to service. Saw an identified one that looked like it was running the 28 at Woodmore Town Center.

Had gone out on a rare weekend fan trip. From today:
16B 2642
25B 2554
23A 2596
FFX 402 9608
70 6500 (Man, that trip sucked, it was very sluggish along Georgia Ave)
62 7215
E3 2210 (Wanted to catch an Orion V in NOVA today, but they were all parked, so this had to do)  >:(
38B 2672
25B 2590.

I also saw #2515 on the H8. Was going to catch it, but the bus left as soon as the light changed.

In addition a couple of things I noticed today was when I was on the 23A near Tysons, I saw a bus stop that had read "5B". How many years ago was that route even eliminated? Then later, when I was on the 402 to Springfield station, I saw another stop reading "18A". Was that route absorbed by Fairfax Connecter or was it also an eliminated route? I also saw an OOS 2000-2002 ART Ford E-450 Cutaway CNG near Van Dorn street station while riding the blue line. Oh, and speaking of the rails, I rode an 8-car Red line train. I didn't even know 8-car trains ran on weekends.

On Sunday 7/14/2013 at approximately 11:55pm I observed a two-car Metro test train operating westbound on the new Silver Line tracks in the median of VA Route 267 (toll) between Route 7 and Wiehle Avenue.  Progress!

Funny, I just saw #2118 over there the other day also be maintained. It's back in service now as of yesterday. My outing for today:
PRTC Fuller Heights/Transit center 273 (another new Gillig Advantage)
PRTC Franconia/Springfield Metro 192
FFX 371 9793 (Second time I caught a FFX Orion VII NG!).

Yeah, I saw some #5000 series cars testing there on Saturday while on the 23A. Anyone know how far the Silver Line is as of now?

The Silver Line tracks are completed as far as Wiehle Avenue which will be the initial terminal station when service begins the end of this year or the beginning of next year.

Even though FMR and Royal would be the closest garages to this route, the buses will operate from Shepherd Pkwy due to lack of room at FMR and Royal. Unless they really dedicate those MetroWay buses to this new line, they might put the occasional DE42LFA on that line, which is why (again) I'm not too crazy about the branding. Either way, I'm glad WMATA is finally trying out BRT, some lines could really use them even if they already have MetroExtra routes running along

Well, the 79 in D.C. usually use mostly C40LFRs and XDE40s with an occasional C40LF. I guess the "9X" could be like this. But here's the question, won't this effect ridership on the 9A, 9E, 10E, and AT10 (DASH)?
Title: Re: July 2013 Observations
Post by: Chargerdodge9 on July 18, 2013, 06:36:53 PM
The 9X would travel along much of the same path as the other 3 WMATA routes and the DASH route. To be honest, I don't really see this route as necessary. What they should do is add a "MetroWays"(Which I guess is the WMATA version of the MTA's Select Bus Service) route along the 29 Line. A new "29A" could run from King Street to Fair Oaks Mall via Duke street/Little river Parkway. And headways up to 10-15 minutes sure would be helpful. How many XDE40s is Shepard's Parkway getting for this route?

6344 is still wrapped with the puppy mill ad (it's been like 2 years now I think, it sure feels like it)

Also, I spotted a WMATA Supervisor Ford Explorer (2013) SUV at the PRTC Transit center today. Not sure why it was there, but it was interesting all the same.
