I decided to make this a seperate thread since the one was I was going to post under was for the "Fort Totten Scrap Yard", why would I post something under that.
Anyways, this was the "intended" garage assignments of the AM Generals. I thought I had posted this somewhere before but it looks like I didn't.
Alexandria (Royal) 7000-7062, 7400-7419, 7500-7519
Arlington 7063-7094, 7420-7439, 7520-7534
Bladnesburg 7095-7202, 7440-7459, 7535-7554
Maryland (aka Prince George's, now known as Southern Avenue Annex) 7203-7234, 7460-7469, 7555-7564
Northern 7235-7320, 7470-7479, 7565-7594
Southeastern 7321-7356, 7480-7489, 7595-7604
Western 7357-7399, 7490-7499, 7605-7619
Now note that the 7400s were seperate and if anyone remembers and that I didn't know was that the 7400s came with a different drivetrain than 7000-7399. 7000-7399 didn't have a VS-2 transmission, and the 7400s had VS-2 overdrives.
Also of note, was the 7500 & 7600 series were all 35'ers
Thanks for posting Wes! So, it appears that some of them (with the VS-2 tanny) were equipped for high-speed use. I'm assuming the others had the regular VH-9 transmission. This is the (Allison) transmission most new look buses had until the late 1970s when the 3-speed V73X series came along.
I remember those AM Generals could move out pretty good, particularly along East West Highway from Ager Road to PG Plaza. If the buses could make that light at 23rd Ave., they were off to the races. The 35 footers on the F8 used to like the downhill ride on University Blvd. from Adelphi Road to the area just to the east of 23rd Ave.
