NYCTA would almost certainly shutdown operations to the Rockaways.

Coney Island and Lower Manhattan would also be susceptible to any significant storm surge.

I'm anxiously awaiting to see how certain Subchatters explain how NYCT is shutting down today while WMATA stays open.  Is NYC somehow getting hit by the storm harder than the DC area despite being further north?

I was a little bit perplexed by the noon shutdown because things are expected to deteriorate throughout the evening. Amtrak is shutting down at 5 with the last train leaving WAS at 425. I think the last one left NYP a bit after 1pm. No service to Boston or Springfield since Metro-North shut down starting at 12pm. I do understand they have much more trackage but feel that maybe they could have operated just a bit longer.

Baltimore MTA Update: Light rail shuts down at 6:00 PM; Metro & Buses at 9:00 PM.


As I write this the wind is picking up and the rain is steadier and more intense.

They say they need 8 hours to move all the equipment from the time service ends to where they want to keep it for the storm.

I heard about that. I also heard LIRR removed 295 crossing gate arms to prevent them from being projectiles. I've never heard of a railroad doing that before.

Bus service has been restored with no fares being collected today.  SIR will resume service at midnight and limited subway service starting at 6 AM, Monday.

LIRR and Metro-North will still be out as there's still much work to be done.
